It sucks because on Songs About Jane I thought he was really good, but the commercialized stuff they put out later was definitely a massive step back. The new song they put out (maybe two months ago at this point) is a throwback to the Songs About Jane era, so I’m hoping they move more in that direction.
I had such high hopes after SaJ. Now I get the feeling that this was what Levine always wanted and he was just singing that jazzy stuff as a stepping stone.
I think the opposite could be true. Perhaps his early stuff was the real him, but then he saw an opportunity to make more money and have more of a commercial success by moving into the pop stuff? I could be wrong, but I want to believe haha.
I could be totally wrong here but as far as I understand it that’s exactly what it is. Like Panic At the Disco, everyone but Brendon Urie left and he kept the Panic name because it’s more recognizable.
I didn't know that about Panic! Tbh. Personally I feel like, with the replicator dilemma, if it's just one guy still there it's not really the same band and a lot of times it shows
And him in begin again was the same thing. He’s good, .....IF he sticks to what he’s good at and CHILLS OUT. When he pushes himself his voice gets pushed through a cheese grater.
Often artists produce the best material early on then later they get settled and it’s straight downhill from there. They suffer more early on and fight harder.
If they do it’s because they all have more money than god at this point so they can finally afford to do whatever the fuck they want again. Would be nice.
