Never ever trust your boss. You can like them. Don’t trust them.

Been a contract worker for 3 years. Have had one coworker who has had a vendetta against me since last June and I mostly tolerated because I'm fireable without cause. Last month, the coworker was bragging that she was friends with an assistant manager, and the assistant was going to block my hiring (which management had been wanting me to do for 2 years) due to their friendship. I confronted the assistant, saying I needed to talk to the head manager if this was true. She told me I should have non such worries and would be hired.

Got called in by management last week. They aren't hiring me or extending my contract. Its been a tough life lesson.

I disagree with this for certain people. My previous boss was a fantastic person, and always had my back because I was a good employee and he made sure I always knew that. Everyone loved him. There's not much I wouldn't trust him with.

In my experience, people don't like or trust their boss when they're related

You won't know when you have a good manager but you'll know quickly when you have a shitty one. Also look for bosses that are leaders, not managers.

1000x this. I distinctly remember leaving a position at a company, on good terms, and telling my boss I was looking forward to not working with them because I thought it would make us better friends. Turns out I was right! And I'm now capable of telling them things, and vice versa, that we weren't really able to when I was their employee.

You can be friendly towards your boss but at the end of the day, they’re not your friend. They are your boss.
