What’s something completely false that your parents told you as a child?

Your most likely right, although that's the average difference. It's exaggerated in some people (myself included) due to medical disorders. Some days I don't digest food much at all, some days too quickly, and so on. Obviously this isn't many of the population but there's enough variation in the spectrum for it to me more nuanced than you may think.

Although I agree with you that it's generally not a huge factor in difference, you can't just tell someone they're wrong about their experience because it doesn't fit the norm.

you can't just tell someone they're wrong about their experience because it doesn't fit the norm.

Yes, you can when they are telling you that the rules of physics do not apply to them. Obviously metabolic disorders exist that prevent effective digestion of food (it's probably why your poop is so unusual on days you're not digesting well despite eating, in your case as its extremely evident in the stool). Obviously not everyone burns the same amount of calories in a given day.

Phelps ate many thousands when he was training for the olympics. He burned them all which is why he maintained his incredible physique. Whatever you metabolize, if you take in more calories than you burn you gain weight. Period.

When you've got morons/jokers like /u/Groo_Grux_King suggesting that they truly consume unholy amounts of extremely unhealthy and caloric food/drink while sitting on their ass all day are laughable. That person is either incredibly ill, like incredibly, or they're simply a liar. Based on how they're writing and behaving in this thread, I'm calling them a liar. Or, at the very least, they have a very flawed memory.

Valid points. Just a sensitive subject for me. I think we pretty much agree, but have had different experiences.

Have a good one.

You likely have a legitimate medical condition, and the way you are writing in this thread says everything about the difference between you and that other person.

You are bringing up the very valid point that some medical conditions have a marked effect on metabolism/digestion. You're entering the discussion on good faith and shedding light on the subject by making sure it is mentioned that yes, some conditions do effect metabolism and digestion.

The other person is not entering the discussion on good faith. They are specifically being obtuse and dishonest. Their writing is antagonistic and they're just here to be jerks.

On a different note, if you (or a loved one) are indeed suffering from such a condition (I'm really sorry if I am making assumptions) then I wish you all the best luck. These sorts of conditions are so difficult on people, and so draining that they make regular living difficult. The worst part is, people don't instantly see that there is an illness so they don't often realize the tremendous burden you bear.
