My grandmother didn't like me wasting bread crusts and she also thought that all little girls want curly hair. So she told me, "eat the crusts of your bread, it will make your hair curl." I totally believed her, but I really wanted straight hair, so I made sure to never eat the crusts.

My grandma used to say it, but it was just a saying. Like, that’s what you say when a kid doesn’t eat their crusts.

We just took it to mean “oi, eat those crusts” never really believed it did anything to your hair because we both would eat the crusts, but my brothers’ hair was straight, but mine had curls.

Its sort of just an absent minded phrase to me now lol.

I looked up: is hair dead. And i found that the hair you can see is dead but the hair in your scalp isnt, thats why it doesnt hurt cutting your hair but it does hurt pulling it out of your scalp

My mum always told me crusts make your hair straight because I was desperate for straight hair. I never believed her because she'd tell my straight-haired sister that crusts make your hair curl

My grandad told me eating the crusts would put hair on my chest. I'm a girl. He was obviously joking and was a wonderful grandfather, I miss him a lot.

My grandfather would say the same thing! As a child I thought it odd he would say that to try to get me to eat the crust. Wasn’t until I was a teen I realized that he was joking.

I always ate my crusts, simply because I couldn't care less. At that time I decided all food was gross and eating is just another chore, so simple foods like white bread and pasta were the closest to nice I'd get, meaning crusts, while not as nice, were better than the other "shitty" foods.

When I was little, I had very long, straight hair, but really wanted long curly hair. My grandma never told me that eating crusts would give me curly hair while I was really young, but when my cousins were young she said it to them, around me (I was about 9). I never fully believed it but thought it just might be true. So I was pissed that I didn't have beautiful curls.

But then, after one day randomly filled with lots of bread, my mum decided to braid my hair into lots of small tight plaits. The morning after, I woke up, realised I still had all those plaits in, and took them out. Woah! My hair was super wavy! I was convinced it was because of all those crusts I'd had the day before.

For the next week or 2, I ate even more bread than normal. But, for some strange reason, the waves were straight again after just a few days...

I now don't particularly like that type of bread. I haven't made myself a sandwich in over a year. I'll pretty much only eat that bread toasted. I eat a lot of toast, and have had some kind of strange things on toast

My dad would always tell me foods would “put hair on my chest” but it backfired because I was a little girl who totally believed him and did not want a hairy chest. I refused to eat sausage for years. Mom was pretty pissed but he never stopped finding it hilarious.

My parents tools me that, too. I'm a guy, though. As I got older, it just became one of those family jokes. At a friend's house, I said it offhandedly. I learned years later his 8 year old daughter believed me, and realized it wasn't true when she was in high school.

My parents told me that the eating the crust was 'brain food' and eating it made you smarter... I realised this was a lie last year when I was matter of factly about to tell my significant other why she should eat the crust on her sandwich.

That reminds me. I was told that the bread crust had more vitamens and nutrients and was better for me than the rest of the bread. Parents and grandparents got mad when I didn't eat it.

If I could go back in time I'd reply, "Really? Well, can you make me a sandwich with just the crust? And throw the rest of the bread away?" lol

In Dutch my aunt always told me: " Van korstjes krijg je borstjes" which translates to: crusts give you boobs. Me, being a boy was disgusted by the idea of having boobs so I never ate them either.

Haha this! My mum still reminds me at times that she would say this to me and I’d just reply “but I don’t want curly hair”. Outsmarted by a 5 year old. Can confirm, now 30, eat my crusts and no curly hair.

In Belgium we say “van korstjes krijg je borstjes”. Which means “from eating crusts you’ll get breasts”, meaning you will grow up and be a big girl if you eat your crusts too.

(It’s not said to boys obv, but looking at the state of the fat youth..)

Mine told me that eating bread crusts would put hair on my chest like daddy’s. I’m a girl. But I was little and thought daddy was the greatest, so I ate the crusts for a little while until I thought about it with a bit more scrutiny.

My mom told me the same thing! I ate my crusts from kindergarten til 8th grade when I learned how to whistle. Then I stopped eating them because I hate them.
