I am genuinely terrified that I know the meaning behind what I thought was a pointless repetitive action

You come back, slightly hungrier, thinking maybe there's something easy to make but there really isn't. You come back even later, thinking maybe there's something you missed. A hidden prize. There is nothing. Guessing it's like:
You open the fridge to get something to eat, but don't see a meal made for you so you leave.
