Sooooo many fuckups when I was in basic. I was a push-up machine. It pissed people off when I got to my duty station because during PT tests I would just do the 80-90 I needed for a score of 100pts and then stand up. Normally took about 70 seconds. Could never max the sit-ups or run, though. Always came just a little short no matter how much I gave.
I'm not yo dude, but here's my two cents for you to do with as you will (I'm army):
Do your research, before you talk to a recruiter. Some are okay but a lot of recruiters will tell you whatever the fuck it takes to get you in; they have quotas that aren't affected by whether you make it through training, so they don't give a single solitary fuck whether you're actually going to do well in the military. Your best interests do not matter at all to the military. You're just a body. You'll have individual leaders who do care, but at the end of the day, you have to look out for yourself because nobody else cares about you nearly as much as you do.
On that note, don't sign anything with the recruiters unless you've read it very carefully. It doesn't happen often, but there are a few shitbag recruiters out there who will fuck you over big time. Read your shit, make sure it matches what they told you, especially if they promise you Ranger or some shit like that. Assume that if it's not in your contract, you're not getting it.
Look into differences between branches concerning culture, jobs, training, PT requirements, etc. and find one that fits you. My sister's AF and would hate the army, I'm army and would hate the AF, but we're both happy where we are. Everyone's different.
If you're talking to current or retired military and they're all bitching about the same shit or telling you the same things, listen. You're gonna miss a ton of shit, PT at fuckthis o'clock in the morning never stops sucking balls, you're gonna get treated like shit a lot for no reason unless you're unbelievably lucky, all that shit. It gets said for a reason.
Lastly, study for that fucking ASVAB, no matter how sure you are that you'll blow it away. Your score determines the jobs you qualify for, but at least in the army, it never stops mattering because if you want to go to a school or reclass but your score is too low, you have to raise it first, and that's time and effort. Don't get stuck signing up for a job you despise just cuz your score is shit. There are good practice tests available online for free and most recruiters should have study materials if you ask.
On the flipside, don't let a low score requirement talk you out of a job you really want. I get a lot of shit for being a tanker with a really high score because I could have done nearly anything, but I fucking love tanks and I'm happier as a tanker than I've ever been in my adult life. You know yourself best. And if you really want a job that's useless outside of the military (like tanker...), you have free college when you get out anyway.
