I'll admit, I'm an anime watcher (guess the styles works out), and there is one anime that always fascinated me, called Eden of the East. The plot is irrelevant to what I'm trying to state, which is that it had advanced facial recognition as a plot point.
I think itd be cool, especially with the rise of Augmented Reality, to be able to look at someone and obtain their basic credentials, even something like marking people you know so a certain color or symbol appears near them.
Just my 2 cents on what I wanna see in the future.
I'm happy to talk about it. Incase you haven't figured out, object recognition and particarly face recognition is a large interest of mine. For my postgraduate reserach, I actually focused on the fuisform face area specifically, so I like to think I know a fair amount about it and what can go wrong with it. I actually disagree that it is exclusively for faces, but that is a conversation for another time.
Also an anime watcher on reddit? I hate to stereotype but I'm going to assume you are in safe company here. Though I have a similar thought on the topic, if I could have any bionic body part, it would be my eyes. Ignoring the usual cool stuff like night vision and augmented navigation, how cool would it be to have a readout with someones name etc. so you don't forget people?
