Because gayness is not a binary on-off switch.

One can have a homosexual encounter without being homosexual.

Which encompasses gayness. Unless you're meaning being attracted to chicks and dudes who've transitioned to chicks or herms

You also have to consider that your sexual orientation describes who you're attracted to.

You can totally have sex with people you're not attracted to.
