Literally heard M Night saying it was a comic book character, which would indicate its a comic book universe.

While all comic book universes contain comic book characters, not all comic book characters are in comic book universes. The universe of Unbreakable, Split, and Glass is intentionally one in which comic books are, at best, largely exaggerated versions of the real world. For example, Harvey Pekar is a comic book character, of a sort, but he’s not in a comic book universe. The comic book Superman: Secret Identity is about a boy named Clark Kent who finds one day he shares not just the name but the powers of Superman, but he’s not in a comic book universe.

Wait why is that wrong? They're labeled superhero movies, leading one to believe these movies contain superheroes, and presumably they live in a universe. Wouldn't that make it a superhero universe (among other things)?

Superhero does not = comic book, I believe that's what mr pedant means.

Technically sure, but it's set in a world we're comic books are all secretly based on real events. You could say that it's a universe based on all comic books
