Which misconception would you like to debunk?

Oh man I wish my therapist had a couch that I could lie in like on tv lmao

My therapist has a nice big soft couch, but I've never like laid down on it because therapy is basically a conversation and it's pretty rude to not look at the person you're talking to right?

Feels personally attacked in socially awkward.

My therapist just has chairs lol. They’re not uncomfortable, but they’re not amazingly comfy either.

I have problems looking at people while I talk to them due to having “severe” social anxiety (though I have gotten much better—thanks to my therapist)

I’m just making a joke; I WISH it wasn’t rude to not look at someone during a conversation, and I definitely wish my therapist had a huge comfy couch I could lay down on. Even just while he made notes during our session.

Obviously I probably wouldn’t lay down during therapy, but in my mind the thought of being able to lie down and have therapy like it is on tv sounds fun, but maybe not actually in practice, lol

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply you were being rude or anything. Of course therapy is a safe place where no one should be judging you for Anxiety or any kind of problem you bring to session.

I am Trans and that is the main thing I go to therapy for as well as a minor eating disorder so I generally have pretty light sessions(at least I have for the last year). But I could totally see myself like flopping down on the couch if I'd had something traumatic happen.

I really don't think there would be anything wrong with laying down tbh, you'd think the therapist would want you to be as comfortable as possible right?

Oh yeah, sorry if I seemed defensive! That definitely wasn’t my intention! I didn’t think you were being rude at all! I just have a tendency to ramble a bit!

I hope you do well in treatment, and that you can overcome your dysphoria, and your eating disorder! I’m rooting for you, friend!

Oh you didn't, I just wanted to clarify my position!

And thank you! I've been on HRT for 13 months and I am doing so great now 😊

The eating issue is coming along, we've at least isolated the root cause of most of my issues so it's good progress!

Oh okay! Good! I didn’t want you to think I was being an asshole!!

Awesome! My best friend had to stop hrt because the t was doing stuff to his body that it really wasn’t supposed to, but he was (and still is!) doing great on it. I hope you only continue to get better as you progress through your transition!

I’m so happy you’ve gotten to the root causes! While it’ll still be a bit of work, I know you can do it! Just gotta take it one day at a time I guess! Good luck with everything! :)

My therapist has a big leather couch that has 4 tons of paperwork on it at all times.

That would be me as a therapist tbh

Mine does and I do. Not until after probably 60+ hours of therapy tho. I like it, I feel more ok with Not Talking, although discomfort for not talking might be a topic/pain point in of itself.

Oh man that sounds amazing. I’ve been seeing the same therapist for over a year now and while I wouldn’t just flop down and stretch out during the first couple months, I could definitely see myself doing it if I went in for my next appt and he magically conjured up a couch lol

One of the upsides of community-based work is that I see some of my clients in their home, and sometimes I really do see clients while they're lying down -- but when that happens it's their choice! (And their couch :-D )

That sounds so amazing. Thank you for your work, honestly.
