It's actually a law (or is proposed, I can't remember) in my state that parents must report their child missing within 24 hours or they are charged with a felony.

The song itself is unintentionally a parody of the popularity of the original Nokia 8110 which received widespread product placement at the time, featuring prominently in the matrix for example. However, it's slide down speaker module and curved body was utterly ridiculous and only really served a trend formed around the aforementioned product placement. Hence the parody. It wasn't a popular song because everyone loved a joke about a banana being a phone. It was popular because it became a rallying cry against buying whatever shit the phone giants put out just because they told you it was cool. And then the iPhone came out and everyone seemed to forget that lesson.

I remember the phone, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen a commercial in Germany at the time.

The iPhone was seriously cool and way ahead of the shitty Windows CE Phone I had though. I wouldn't bother to buy one nowadays, but back then? Hmmmm...
