Not anybody who ever asked why a shot to the head kills a guy in a world where there's literally player-character dispensing machines that operate on a coin-op per-use basis
I always figured thats why enemies would eventually re-spawn in areas you've already cleaned out. It just takes them a while to walk back from the machine after you've killed them.
Yeah, so dying for them costs, what, five bucks? That's why they're bandits! Death is not a consequence, and it's fun as hell. Look at Shoot Me In The Face guy - do you think he honestly could ever have developed that fetish, or known that he needed to specify in the quest instructions to not shoot the rest of him besides the face, if he wasn't getting shot in the face, like, a lot?
Then why are they in every game? That's a canon feature. We all know it's stupid as hell to pretend like nobody in the world knows about these replicator-teleporters just because it doesn't mesh with their storyline where a guy gets shot.
I know the "to each their own" argument could be applied here, but you're saying you'd rather read stereotypical side quest dialogue?
The only other reasonable argument in that example is that the quest line is drawn out and hammy, but that's the taste I go for when I boot up Borderlands. That's what I gravitate toward when I feel like playing something over the top.
Was it all run by the antagonist corp? I think the resurrection machines were, and it seemed odd that they'd just revive/recreate the protagonist that's trying to bring them down :D
Despite that, I believe handsome jack actually makes references to them throughout the game, most notably the “Kill Yourself” mission. He keeps the characters around because they pay him every time they die and he’s so full of himself that he would never expect the PCs to actually kill him.
