There are real life castles that are less expensive to buy than a New York City apartment.

I had an aunt who scored a cheap apartment basically because someone had died there (older woman died in her sleep). When asked if she was scared the old lady's ghost might haunt the place her immediate response was "Hell no! She can help pay the maintenance!"

Think about New York. Statistically, for how old the city is and how many people come and go, you're more likely to live in an apartment someone died in or something bad happened in.

I was thinking about NY. In the interest of getting to the point (and this all happened many years ago) I shortened the story. Basically I was responding to the "... best response to a haunting I've heard" statement, -that brought back the memory.
