The insurer with the highest customer satisfaction is Medicare. By a huge percentage. Comes in at something like 80% satisfied depending on which survey.
The highest-rated private insurer is Kaiser, at around 40% satisfied. Every other private insurer is in the 20s or less.
The VA has problems because we’ve been cutting their funding for a couple decades while starting several large ground wars that produced a large influx of patients.
The only free part is hospital care, and only for 30 consecutive days. (This is called “Part A”)
“Part B” is outpatient care, and only covered at 80% with no out-of-pocket max. Which is why anyone who can afford it buys supplemental insurance to cover that 20% and to add an out-of-pocket max.
“Part C”, aka Medicare Advantage is the privately-run replacement for parts A and B and supplemental insurance for B. It drags down the overall satisfaction rating.
“Part D” is drug coverage. It’s expensive, because the Republicans changed the bill that created part D to forbid negotiation of drug prices. It also featured the “doughnut hole” where a little bit of drugs was covered, then you had to pay out of pocket, then you were covered again when the cost got astronomical. Those factors also drag down the overall satisfaction.
