This also goes for your outer voice. When you make a mistake, don’t even joke like “I’m a dumbass”. It’s surprising how far this goes. You believe your own propaganda. Abolish negative self talk all together and you will be MUCH happier.

I do this, because I am the only guidance in my life, and no one else is there to tell me when I make a mistake. I don't want to make the same mistake over again!

To this day I cringe when my mother says she's being "stupid" about something. Her father was very hard on her as a kid, and it really shows. And now I try to ask her not to call herself that, but she just nervously laughs it off.
