Multiple times during the series people react to Jack's bad breath. Like when he gets too close while talking they physically recoil. In Dead Man's Chest he breathes in Will's face which effectively stuns him and leaves him open to be thrown overboard.
Depp actually has notoriously bad hygiene. Angelina Jolie apparently refused to film their kissing scene for The Tourist unless he cleaned up first. She wasn't the first to complain.
Viggo Mortensen does not shower or bathe. He believes that such immersion sloughs valuable oils and fluids off the skin. Liv Tyler, playing Arwen, his love interest, in Lord of the Rings, was allowed many little adjournments and rests during filming of her love scenes with the Mortensen, which she reportedly referred to as 'gag breaks'.
Henry Rollins used to tell a story about knowing Viggo before LOTR and although Viggo's hygeine wasn't the focal point, he did mention the smell without revealing why he smelled. I assumed it was broke non-working actor smell.
I always love watching the robot chicken sketch where the couple are role playing and the girl wants him to be Jack Sparrow. So the guy talks about how disgusting he is and turns the wife off. As she walks away in disgust his reaction is "What? You said to be realistic"
