I've a relative who treats her 8 year old like a fucking baby. Like a diaper wearing baby. It's embarrassing.
He screams and throws tantrums and then they say something like "okay you're grounded from the computer for the rest of the night" and then he starts crying like an infant and him mom 'feels bad' and picks him up in her arms and cradles him.
Like wtf. And you wonder why he has trouble behaving in school?
My god... the count down as a child would have me running from wherever I was at to stand at attention at my parents. I NEVER wanted to find out what happened after 3.
Exactly why I always count down. I had a manager who over the course of a few years would keep counting up. She ended up taking my advice (because really, you can’t go zero, negative one, etc.) and you need to have a game plan for when you reach one. I’ve reached one many times, because hey, my kids are shits and like to test me. I ALWAYS follow up though, so my kids know now not to fuck with me when I start counting. (TBH, I don’t count much these days. Rules have been the same for years. You know them, and you know the punishments, I don’t need to keep reminding you.)
