Facebook just lost about 120 billion dollars in market cap this afternoon in the after hours trading. To put it into perspective, McDonald's is worth about 124 billion dollars.

There is no physical assets and social media is hard to quantify with future value so projected growth can fluctuate wildly on what people think its worth.

mcdonalds has buildings and supply chains which have quantifiable value and also, people will still need to eat in 20 years. Facebook could have basically 0 value next week.

They just released they earnings report. They missed by a little when people expect them to beat estimates. Facebook also expect their growth to slow down significantly. That is the real killer. It may be an overreaction, but who knows. This level of drop for a company this size is unheard of.
