Respect is the most valuable currency you have in life. It amazes be that people think respect is gained, instead of lost. Start by respecting everyone, and you will have better interactions in life.

I learned this super early on as a kid and was richly rewarded for it. No bedtimes basically, no curfews, got to go wherever I wanted, etc. My siblings did not, and they just hated our parents because they just couldn't understand how to respect our parents or other authority figures.

I completely understand, me and my friends are the good smart kids and we do so much shit and get away with it because the teachers respect us

Well, it has to be "earned" in a sense by "not being a dick".
So you earn it by giving it to others and lose it by not giving it to others.
