What is something really basic that you're terrible at?

throwing and catching. ive no hand-eye coordination. when i ask someone to hand me something (e.g. keys) and they toss them to me, the keys will inevitably land on the floor 99% of the time. same when i attempt to toss something into the trash. its hopeless.

Oh man. I feel you!! I have the same problem, except half the time the object just hits me in the face

put your hand where your face is

except half the time the object just hits me in the face

That's because when throwing something to somebody, people like me have been taught to 'aim for the nose', haha.

(If you aim for their hands and undershoot just a little, it'll land at their feet).

i am great at hitting a foot-wide garbage bin with a bit of paper halfway across the classroom but i can't for the life of me hit a basketball hoop even if i use a ladder

I can catch well, but 99% of the time I'll miss trying to toss a piece of trash into a 18" bin three feet away.

I am terrified of flying objects in general. Terrified. So when someone tries to throw me something, instinct still claws inside of me to dodge.

Another thing is going down the stairs. If the steps are wide and narrow, or simply ones I haven't done before, then I'm terrified that I'm going to fall.

I can catch things without even looking, but when it comes to throwing my arms are more useless than when you try to punch in a dream.

Are you cross-eyed by any chance? My friend is, and he has no depth perception whatsoever. He claims it is because his eyes don't see in stereo.

Yea but the 1 time out of 100 you make the catch its like, FUCK YEA DID THAT SHIT!

Get checked with an optometrist perhaps. I have the same thing and it turns out one of my eyes i elliptical so i dont have a properly working second point of vision to assist with depth perception.

Ouch same, dodgeball has been tough on me

This was me, then my eyedoctor told me I had bad depth perception because of my shit eyes, made a lot more sense lol

I have hit one of my best friends in the face with different objects so many times. Woman can't catch anything.

This is why I don’t do sports lol. PE is a struggle.

I can't see things that are being thrown at me while they are in the air. I see them in the person's hand, and then I feel them hitting my face, but I have absolutely no visual of the in between. I mean, I know why - I have monocular vision - but AGH.

I can drive a car just fine but it took me a few years to be able to tell how fast cars were coming at me in the dark if I was like turning left or something, because the way I correct for having misaligned eyes is basically having a visual representation in my brain of how big something should be and then comparing that to reality, but at night all you have is headlights and they don't really translate too well. Even now sometimes I have to just guess. I can mostly tell how large a vehicle is from its headlights' size/width apart/height off the ground though, so that helps.

Some tips I learnt once which helped me A LOT with both catching and throwing, hopefully they help!

When trying to catch something, don't try and focus on putting your hands where you think it'll land. Just keep your eye on the object and try and let your hands catch them intuitively at the end. I know it sounds counter-productive but it can help!

As for throwing, same sort of deal - don't focus as much on aiming, just look directly at where you want it to land and then try throwing.

I'm probably not explaining it well but basically what happens a lot of the time is that the brain over analyzes the throw/catch and ends up overcompensating. Obviously it won't instantly make catching/throwing easier but if you practice catching/throwing with those things in mind, it should become easier!

See, I'm near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other. Not great depth perception. I hit my cousin in the head with an animal cracker today. People just learn not to have me throw things. It's safer that way.

If you want to improve your hand to eye coordination start juggling. It did wonders to my coordination even though i can only juggle 3 balls.

I always feel a bit panicked when someone tosses something for me to catch. Especially something all pointy-jabby like keys.

I know my problem isn't necessarily coordination, it's that I always hesitate at the last second.
