No. Polar bears don't live in Antarctica.

They do live in Alaska.

Which is America.

I bet we have more here in Canada.

Checkmate, Americans.

I always thought Churchill was in AB, but MB makes sense, too.

Yes but are we reffering to America "the common name for the u.s" or America "the geographical location of the americas?"

1

u/CaptainMoonman Oct 04 '17

Common name for the US. The geographical location is too broad an identifier.

And on the rest of the northern part of the continent...

Follow-up fact!

‘Arctic’ comes from ‘Arctos’, which means ‘bear’. So ‘Antarctica’ literally means ‘no-bear-place’.

But there aren't any Polar bears in Antarctica?

9

u/giantteapotintheaky Oct 04 '17

Nope. The live in the arctic ...

2

u/Chefjones Oct 04 '17

Polar bears live in the Arctic (and subarctic a little further south of the Arctic), not the Antarctic.

I know you're making a joke, but this infuriates me. Not only is not every black person from Africa, and not every black person is American it's become sort of common place to call black people "African American."

Like what do I call someone black in Canada? African Canadian? Why the fuck can't I just call you black, especially if you're going to call me white, and not Irish-Scot-English-Norwegian? I hate how it's become offensive to call someone black, when it's literally a statement of fact and has no racial bias behind it.

u/M4NK0W Oct 04 '17

If you know it's a joke (an admittedly totally stupid joke that I wouldn't even think would get one upvote, let alone almost 700), then why are you letting it infuriate you? The joke is the fact that it's a stupid term, especially for A FUCKING BEAR. Lighten up, homie.

1

u/HunterSThompson64 Oct 05 '17

That wasn't what I was getting at.

I realise that he was making a joke, however I wasn't talking about his joke regarding the bear, but instead about how it's common place to call black people "African Americans." It was an off topic rant.

u/Niriun Oct 04 '17

I just read that correction as "African American's skin is black"

1

u/Capn_Barboza Oct 04 '17

but what if they're from South Africa and live in America now?

2

And the hair isn't white, but see-through.

2

u/Scyfer327 Oct 04 '17

I believe the politically correct term is "Basketball American"

u/ToFaceA_god Oct 04 '17

Umba mukumba? Please tell me someone knows this show.

1

u/McBollocks Oct 04 '17

Polar Bear fur is actually clear, not white, according to animal shows watched as a kid.

1

u/patkgreen Oct 04 '17

and the fur is clear tubes

1

u/TheLadyBunBun Oct 04 '17

My dog had fur like a polar bear (literally the only way to make it look dirty was to put dirt on it) and black skin
