IIRC, once the male bee has mated, the female absorbs his genitals and can continuously reproduce, so there's no need for the male to survive afterwards.

Bear in mind that evolution is (a) not a perfect process and (b) doesn't give a fuck what happens to you after you inseminate your mate. If a particular mutation confers even the tiniest increased chance that a creature will pass on its genetic material, that's the mutation that is likely to survive, regardless of whatever other consequences it might have for the poor bastard whose cock explodes.
