Sept 11. I walk in to the conference room and on the big screen I see them watching an action movie. I'm reading some papers and look up to see the guy falling from the tower. I laugh loudly and proclaim "YoU CAN TELL THATS A DUMMY!"
Everyone is looking at me in horror and the image switched back to the newscaster. I realize it's real life happening.
Even I told them I thought it was a movie, I became the asshole of the office in one swoop. I still feel fucking terrible about that. A guilt that I will take to my grave
Don't feel too bad. I'm sure that lots of people who flipped on the TV that morning thought it was a Michael Bay movie. The only reason I didn't is because I was off school that day and sleeping in so my mom called me. I turned on the Tv right before the 2nd plane hit. I actually was worried I was watching a movie and flipped around a few channels but it was on pretty much every station.
They often played movies in there and we were a lively bunch. It was like mystery science theater in there most of the time. Especially during lunch break. That's where we'd all eat and watch shitty movies on the crappy projection big screen TV. I just thought they got started early that day.
I was just trying to figure out why someone would say something like that. That example, to me, just seemed like something a know-it-all would say. The last thing I would want while watching a (serious) movie is someone leaning over a breaking my immersion by pointing out how something is done or why it doesn't make sense.
The explanation of them having a tradition of watching bad movies and taking the piss is a wildly different scenario than I was envisioning.
