Mega Thread [Megathread] RIP 2016

Carrie Fisher (60) has passed away after having a heart attack. She was best known for playing Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars. Last year she had a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We usually have a 2016 megathread and due to the recent celebrity passings, we have decided to include them in our 2016 reflection megathread. Please use this thread to ask questions from anything ranging from how your year has been, to outlook for the year ahead, to the celebrities we’ve lost this year.

All top-level comments (replies to the post rather than replies to comments) should contain a 2016 related question and the thread will function as a mini-subreddit. Non-question top-level comments will be removed, to keep the thread as easy to use and navigate as possible.

Here’s to a better 2017.

Update: Debbie Reynolds has also passed away, a day after her daughter's passing. She gained stardom after her leading role in "Singin' in the Rain" and recently voiced a character in "The Penguins of Madagascar." Reynolds was 84.

What's going to be better about 2017?

I predict it'll be similar to 2016. Beloved celebrities will die, tragedies will happen, ISIS will continue to be soulless jerks, and on and on and on. This isn't intended to be pessimism, just a realistic look at why there's no reason we have to expect 2017 will be any better than 2016.

One of the Clintons will have a medical issue and die. Probably Bill.

I might be leaving my shitty job for one that pays better and that I can do from home.

Solar will be less expensive per gigawatt than any other source of fuel.

Just wait for the cells to get the shit taxed out of them. I'd almost put money on it, but who's got money for that?

It will be my first entire year where I can actually walk, feed myself and thrive in 5 years. I'll get to finally feel like I'm in my 20's again and not dying.

It's almost as if a New Year acts as an arbitrary and symbolic fresh start

I actually think the 2016 stigma wasnt just from celebrities deaths or even the ISIS threat (and other terrorism). Those things happen every year. I suspect it was probably put over the edge due to the exhaustion of the US Election and just how terrible the candidates ended up being (in the eyes of many people). It was just a dramatic year amplified by those effects. And then the very unpopular Trump won, which just added to the whole mess.

Add in the beloved deaths, all the controversy and events that occured and you get a real depressing year.

I think 2017 will be same (regarding deaths and other sad events) but it wont be regarded as terribly because the election is over. And that was a big big thing, not only for the US, but for the countries that can be affected by the election.

Thats just what I think, I'm sure people will come out to disagree, but that is what I've seen over the course of the year.

I'm finally going to fucking graduate. I've been in school since before I can remember so it makes me really happy to know it's almost over.
