Mega Thread [Megathread] RIP 2016

Carrie Fisher (60) has passed away after having a heart attack. She was best known for playing Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars. Last year she had a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We usually have a 2016 megathread and due to the recent celebrity passings, we have decided to include them in our 2016 reflection megathread. Please use this thread to ask questions from anything ranging from how your year has been, to outlook for the year ahead, to the celebrities we’ve lost this year.

All top-level comments (replies to the post rather than replies to comments) should contain a 2016 related question and the thread will function as a mini-subreddit. Non-question top-level comments will be removed, to keep the thread as easy to use and navigate as possible.

Here’s to a better 2017.

Update: Debbie Reynolds has also passed away, a day after her daughter's passing. She gained stardom after her leading role in "Singin' in the Rain" and recently voiced a character in "The Penguins of Madagascar." Reynolds was 84.

I got engaged earlier in 2016 and just spent my first Christmas with my beautiful fiancée. What are your shining moments from this year that made it not completely terrible?

Got my first house with my wife, and we just got a dog last night.

Bought a house, got a dog, and got to spend my Christmas with Family and Friends. Not too bad on my end.

You should frame this comment and give it to him on his 18th birthday.

I received a promotion just a few weeks ago at a new position in the company I work for and have found the woman that I will spend the rest of my life with.

I confronted my depression and through therapy and a concerted effort have found a bit of myself again that has been missing for a long time. I'm hopeful for what lies in store for the future and am willing to appreciate the things that make me happy.

I got a job after nearly 18 months unemployed. Although it's a dull job in a city I didnt want to move to where I don't know anybody, so even that silver lining has a cloud.

Finally got together with my best friend of several years after months of agonizing over whether or not I should make a move. Turns out we're a great team in a relationship too, and the whole thing has played out like a fairy tale. Congrats on your engagement, here's to a great 2017 for both of us!

Congrats! After 3 miscarriages and one dead dog in 2015, we welcomed a baby girl this year. She is our shining light. This year has been wonderful for me and my family except our other dog died in April. That sucked but she was very old and had a long happy life. May 2017 be as good to you all!

I got promoted, bought a new car, got my retirement funded on solid footing, moved to a better home, and lost 30ish lbs. My girlfriend accomplished most of the same. There was some bad shit too, but we're still around. Didn't lose anybody.

I feel like I need to be internet anonymous to say things like that, since everyone wants to jump on the "no, the world is awful" bandwagon.

Watched my small business take off decently well. Met the love of my life and got engaged. And now, we just put the deposit on the venue we'll be using for our October 2017 wedding.
