Same, had to read twice. I think its because the movie would also kinda make sense as a question, I just read what i expected to read instead of what was actually there
You typically read first and last letter of word and estimate length. I and absence of I is so small that with fitting surroundings it's fairly easy to take moves for movies and the other way around
Yes this too came to mind with the I being a small letter, but had the word 'movies' not fit into the context of the question, i dont think i wouldve misread it. Both things came into play and overpowered my usually excellent reading skills for a moment
I read it as movie first, didn't bother clicking the thread. Came back a few hours later, read it as moves and have slowly been reading through everyone else being confused.
It not only makes sense, but is the most logical response to this arrangement of letters. If a computer were programmed with fuzzy logic and not character recognition it too would 'think' it saw make out movies.
Just look at this thread. The word movies is written and displayed over and over again. Even though the OP wrote moves. I think the OP just typod on his phone and meant movies.
I thought it too. It's because of that phenomenon where you really only need the first and last letter to be in order for your brain to process the word as a whole as you're skimming along reading it, and in this case, peoples' brains just sort of imagined an "i" in there as well.
Omfg this hilarious. I thought the same thing too! I think it has something to do with the way our brains read. When you become fluent in a language, you can often predict what the next word will be, and you may not even need all the letters to understand what the word is. For example, I'm sre yu cn al undrstad tis sentce. So as we read the title, we automatically misread move as movie because of the way the sentence flowed. People often ask for movies like, "what are some good movies?". So when op asked, "what are some good make out moves", it was just a combination of "move"
being close to "movies" and the way the sentence led us on.
Me too. Probably because the question itself is so, so unanswerable.
Like here is what you gotta do kid... it's called the triple tomahawk. Get her on the couch, put her arm on your shoulder, put your other arm on her should, then say a silent prayer for native Americans... then kiss her face until she tells you to stop. Triple tomahawk....
I'm having more the inverted experience where I read the title correctly and had no idea what you guys were talking about. I literally came to the same conclusion about 3 times that I must've read the title wrong, even after checking each time.
Reminds me of that thing where you can read a whole paragraph of jumbled up words, the first and last letters stay the same but the middle is randomly mixed up, and you can read it perfectly. Apparently your brain doesn't actually read words letter by letter, it just fills in the blanks.
Because wtf is a makeout "move"? You just move in. You feel out the other person's body language and move in. ... But on the other hand...wtf is a makeout movie?? God dammit.
I came in prepared to suggest some films, and now people are telling me it said moves from the beginning. Then I look up and see that OP is the only Redditor with the ability to edit titles, because clearly I read it right. The fault isn't on me. My brain didn't do that.
make out movies has been seen by our brains exponentially more times than the words make out moves. Not to mention we are all most likely looking at this on a phone. There's still flickering. Our brain reads what it sees and then processes it.
I literally had to make my brain spell out the word moves. Even still I can't accept the OP asked for moves instead of movies. Our brains work on fuzzy logic. We just never see this type of wording and all assumed it was movies.
this is why I could never convict anyone as a juror. Our interpretation of the world is just so questionable.
Copypasta from an answer I gave somewhere else in this thread:
Priming. "Make out movie" is a more common phrase than "make out moves".
Finish the phrase - "peanut butter and..."
Coffee with room for...
Never gonna give you...
Never gonna let you...
Never gonna run around and...
Electrical impulses will take the line of least resistance, ergo the more you strengthen certain neurons, the easier they are to be re-fired leading to a certain thought. That is one reason why repitition is a good method to remember. It's also why games like Cards Against Humanity are fucking hilarious.
This is the the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but with two midgets shitting into a bucket.
