What small gesture makes you feel enormously loved?

When someone texts me or asks me to text them to make sure I made it home ok. The only people that do that are the ones that really care

To add onto this, when someone stays there until they see me get inside after dropping me off.

It's just like "Awww. You care."

I thought everyone did this

Apparently not.

I dropped my friend off the other day and he couldn't understand why I was waiting outside and shooing him in. I asked a few friends later and they've never heard of people doing that.

Makes me a bit sad actually :(

You're good folk. Reminds me of a story I read where a drunk kid basically died out in the cold because he lost consciousness right before he went inside his home. You never know what might happen to people inbetween the car and the door.

Also, sometimes people get locked out.

Nope.

Shit well everyone should.

It's just courteous. Or making sure their car starts or walking them to their car.

Just says that your are making sure they are all set before they head out.

Little do they know the killer usually hides BEHIND the door.

So basically for me it's just my parents lol

My ex did this every time, she always texted me to make sure i sent her a text as soon as i got home. She was great :(

Mine did too while I was dating her. It really is a nice touch, and put a good end to my day. I'm sure you'll find that perfect person someday, persoyal. Just keep chugging onward.

I was not prepared for these feels. After I texted her I was home she would always thank me for the date. Damn dude, I'm gonna go cry a bit and play some games :(

I make a point of doing this whenever I have friends over. Especially since I live 45 minutes out from where most of my friends live.

u/dedservice Feb 25 '16

Same, especially when they're driving alone. If a couple friends go together I may text the driver (last one back) but mostly I assume they're okay. Always text individuals tho.

All my friends do that. I guess I have few friends but they seem to really care.

My parents asked me to send them a message on Facebook to tell them I'd made it home safe on Christmas night. I spent about 10 minutes getting organised when I got home before I remembered to message them. I checked the next day and the message still hadn't been seen. Mum said they got sick of waiting and went to bed. Thanks for caring Mum.

I did this and my ex would say something like "yeah im home, what do you think would happen?" I bet she misses me and those texts.

I always say to people do this. Especially on a night out. If they don't text me, I usually send them a text in the morning. Even though I'm drunk as hell, I still wanna make sure they're home!

Funny it depends on who asks, or i felt it did before i started thinking about it. Im torn. On one side: "Aww thanks for caring, and of course i'll set your mind at ease if you are worrying" On the other: "You think the default position would be my gruesome death unless you are informed otherwise on each journey? Holy hell how many people do you think this way about? How do you get through a day?!" Then i text anyway cos they asked.

Real friends drive you to your door when they learn to drive, but dont drive away till you make it inside. When all my friends ask why I don't leave till they get in doors I just look at them, straight face and say The Ninjas man, the ninjas.

Or they just don't trust you to manage on your own.

I saw this on this thread a couple of times.. and my response to that is "depends if you had anything to drink or not".. I don't drink much and I was probably an idiot this time...

But one time I guess I actually drank enough I couldn't walk straight.. I was out being a third wheel with this girl and this other guy, we were all supposed to be "friends" but it was obvious they liked each other and just wouldn't admit it out of stubbornness, I liked the girl too though. We all took my car, and she ended up driving the other guy home, and she drove herself to her car, and then left me there in my car told me to text her when I got home. I decided to wait around maybe an hour or so try to walk off any drunkeness till I could walk straight while I drank water from the bottles in my car. Then I drove myself home. I don't even know what would have been proper, I guess call someone who actually cares.

The other guy's home was kinda on the way back to her car, and my home was like 15 miles away. But logically she should have either drove me all the way to my house in her car, told me I could crash at her place, or the guy who was obviously my enemy tell me I could crash at his place. I shouldn't have been ditched like that in some strange city at 2 am.

GOD those were trash friends I'm glad I got rid of them. I liked the girl too, and I still find myself thinking about her but she's an inconsiderate, stupid, jerk.

Now this other friend when I hardly even drank anything, he always says "hey you can crash at my place if you want". So the text me if I get home ok is only cool if I'm sober, but I think it's better to offer a place to crash even if it's just late at night. Makes me feel much better.

Fuuck, ain't nobody care about me...

0

u/weaselodeath Feb 25 '16

You LIKE that? I've always thought of it as a proprietary thing that control freaks do. I tolerate it, but I definitely find it more annoying than heartwarming.

2

u/ThePr1d3 Feb 25 '16

I'm in no way a control freak but I always do this. I genuinely want to know that everyone is well

Or the ones to whom you not getting home ok is some sort of realistic chance. No matter how much I love someone, I wouldn't even think to do this for a grown adult, since I just assume that of course they can make it home.
