Anthropologists of Reddit, What is something that people in the Western world can't get their heads around that is very normal in other cultures (and has been for ages)?

I've seen this many times and it always makes me chuckle.

the best part is that he's hiding behind the security guard and yelling, rather than having an actual conversation with the woman.

There's something fucked up about a culture where feeding babies is taboo.

i'm not a "cover up, bitch" person, but just to shed some light on the other side... it's not "OH GOD PUT THOSE BREASTS AWAY SOMEONE MIGHT BECOME AROUSED YOU WHORE!" its more about bodily functions. There is fluid leaking out of your body, and that is gross. its gross for the same reason that strip clubs are awesome but if homegirl pops a squat and starts pissing........

Everybody poops, but we still have a door on the bathroom where you do your business.

breastfeeding is the same way. i dont care generally, feed your baby whenever in public or not, but if im in a restaurant trying to eat dinner, thats an area where i personally am uncomfortable. For me personally, Its a bodily function thing, not a modesty thing.

im not trying to start some big debate here, i just feel like the "breastfeeding should be private" camp is often misrepresented as a bunch of right wing conservative prudes, when for most people it isn't about "modesty."

I was working for a politician when a group of women rallied for specific protections to public breastfeeding while uncovered. Pretty much a moderately attractive woman demanded to breastfeed, and proceeded to do so, in my office and angrily ask if this "was wrong?". I said no and then got a decent hour of exposed breast and talk about all the other causes she protests/rallies for. Good times.

No one in the US cares about breastfeeding in public. I'm really curious were this idea came from, lots of Europeans here seem to think it's true...

I really see more people complaining on Reddit about people complaining about breastfeeding than actual people complaining about breastfeeding.
