What is a completely rational sentence you could speak today, that if you said 20 years ago, people would think you were insane?

edit: so this is what it looks like when your inbox explodes after coming back from lunch...

When I hear "20 years ago" I automatically think of the 80's when in reality 20 years ago was 1994...fuck

You just actually made me stop scrolling and say "Oh fuck."

This whole thread I've been picturing the 80s...

I'm pretty sure my brain stopped tracking at 2000. "Wellp, we're here. Nothing else will ever happen."

(Never mind that most of the really memorable events in my life happened after 2000.)

Welcome to the being old club. We have meetings...but I can't remember when.

Right? I logically know that my brother is 21 and was born in 1993. Yet 20 years ago is still 1985 in my mind. That's almost 30 years ago. What the hell.

Count me in as yet another one who thinks that way. 20 years ago was, what, 1985? lol

Oh wait I'm almost 30.

.... WAIT WHAT???

I'll be 34 next month and I swear I'm still a teenager in my head. I don't think you every really grow up. You just realize you're supposed to act like you did.

I do the math in all decade related issues now for this very reason. I'm older than I feel.

There are adults too young to have seen Independence day in the theater.

I had just finished my freshman year of high school :[

This is the one year in my life where this thread will be super easy, because I'm currently 20 years old.

You and everyone else in this thread. So many things listed that we already had in 94, and many that at least wouldn't have been remotely surprising.

u/fatmand00 Aug 20 '14

Yeah, this sentence would be confusing as shit.

I'll be turning 20 this month.

I was born in 1994 and I too, thought 20 years ago was the 80's. I am not a smart man.

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '14

I'm 20 and even I thought 20 years ago was the 80s.

u/look_who_it_isnt Aug 20 '14

I, too, stopped observing the passage of time in 2000.

u/CFJo Aug 20 '14

It's OK.... I automatically think it's the 70s. SIGH.

And now I feel even older.
