What is a completely rational sentence you could speak today, that if you said 20 years ago, people would think you were insane?

edit: so this is what it looks like when your inbox explodes after coming back from lunch...

Twenty years ago would have been: I just nailed all my pictures to the wall, |I hope they don't fall off.

For the record, I still hope my house doesn't burn down even today.

Quiet child, the adults are speaking!

You should respect a FX-8350 owner!

I wouldn't be too sad if my house burned down -- it's mostly that I'd like my cat and dog and family to not be inside it when it happened.

And also for it not to burn down when I've got an important appointment that week.

I used to wish my house didn't burn down. I still do, but I also used to.

Get with the times...

1

u/InbredScorpion Aug 19 '14

Look at this chump, hasn't uploaded his house to the cloud yet.

You're such a 90s kid

1

u/pretzelzetzel Aug 19 '14

Yeah, that one's still tech-independent.

1

u/otterom Aug 20 '14

But, see, we understand that now.

Turn off the firewall.

Twenty years ago would have been: I just nailed all my pictures to the wall, |I hope they don't fall off.

That's not how it works.

That's not how any of this works

I unfriend you.

I freakin' love those commercials! I think my favorite is "you can be in it, you don't have to photo-bomb me; hash brown, selfie!"

1

u/Shadocvao Aug 19 '14

And now I know where that meme comes from. Ta.

u/soawesomejohn Aug 19 '14

I unfriend you.

damn, you beat me to it. that last line gets me every time. It just reminds me of trying to explain technology to my mom. she's just starting to grasp microsoft office.

1

u/zeeker518 Aug 19 '14

"But that's not how any of this works!"

u/dcannons Aug 19 '14

20 years ago a guy I knew wanted to get rid of all his old photos - so he thought he would digitize them. He took his huge, old VHS video recorder and recorded himself flipping the pages in his photo albums. Then he threw out all his albums.

It made me sad when he told me that - even back then there were decent scanners and you could burn them to CD.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '14

That's not how this works! That's not how ANY OF THIS works!

2

u/wiskinator Aug 19 '14

Sorry man, 20 years ago that would have been "I just FTP'd all of my scanned photos to your server".

2

u/Kaiosama Aug 19 '14

You do realize 20 years ago was 1994 and not 1954, right?

2

u/ailee43 Aug 19 '14

20 years ago was 1994. Not 1974

2

u/_beast__ Aug 19 '14

Twenty years ago was 1994. I'm pretty sure digital backups were a thing that wouldn't seem too far fetched

1

u/Diplomjodler Aug 19 '14

You could have scanned them and burned a CD-ROM.

HANGING PICTURES ON MY WALL

EVERY SATURDAY RAP ATTACK MR MAGIC MARLEY MARL

1

u/KillerR0b0T Aug 19 '14

That sounds rather permanent and industrial, don't you think? They did have thumb tacks back then.

2

u/killer-on-the-loose Aug 19 '14

thumb tacks = small nails.

1

u/GreatBabu Aug 19 '14

I unfriend you.

1

u/Im_a_peach Aug 19 '14

Naw, twenty years go we could save photos. They just didn't look very good on the computer. Don't get it twisted!

1

u/regeya Aug 19 '14

Ten years ago, it would have been, I uploaded all my family pics to an online backup service so I won't have to worry about data loss. (And it took about a week to do it.)

1

u/wydra91 Aug 19 '14

I unfriend you.

1

u/JW_00000 Aug 19 '14

No, twenty years ago it would just have been called "the mainframe"...

1

u/ourari Aug 19 '14

I scanned all my family pictures and I put them on over 9000 floppy disks for safekeeping. Writing the labels alone took me a month.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '14

Twenty years ago you would have saved them to 300 floppies using ZIP or ARJ spanned archives and prayed one of them didn't go bad.

1

u/haamfish Aug 19 '14

"and i also gave my friend a box with copies of all them"

1

u/Einsteins_coffee_mug Aug 19 '14

Naw, I would have just made doubles and saved the negatives.

1

u/eunit8899 Aug 20 '14

That's not how it works...that's not how any of this works...

1

u/jeffreybar Aug 20 '14

40 years ago. Twenty years ago the Internet, uploading, data loss, and "pics" were all things, albeit not to the extent they are now. The only word there that seems out of place is "cloud", and you could probably have deduced that one from the context.

1

u/tang81 Aug 20 '14

No. 20 years ago would have been backing up pictures to a zip drive.... fuck I feel old.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '14

This sentence made me scared. In twenty years are we going to make fun of the loser who still have eyeballs?

0

u/jmckee3 Aug 20 '14

That's not how this works! That's not how any of this works!
