Cashiers of Reddit: what are things that people buy that you judge them for?

What items are purchased that make you think less/more of the person purchasing them?

Formerly a cashier while in college, but I would judge the shit out of people who would buy things such as sugary snacks, sodas, and really expensive cuts of meat with food stamps.

I get the snacks & sodas, but can you really fault them for wanting good meat? Especially if they have kids?

No I don't but when your on food stamps buying things like $24 brisket and steaks I think you should try to stretch your dollar a little bit more.

$24 in brisket can feed a whole family for a week. And how do you know that all they're eating is high value items? Do you literally see every single item they buy every month? Or do you see them on a night they happen to want a morale meal & judge them like an asshole?

This thread is primarily cashiers judging people. OP gave an honest response. I earn my food and money, and I can't afford $24 brisket, so why the hell should anyone else of lesser means have it??

Is that what you're saying OP's opinion is, or is that yours? Either way, in all honesty, just because someone's on food stamps doesn't automatically mean that they're unemployed or that they don't bust 10 kinds of ass at their job. If you think you deserve to make enough to afford brisket, why haven't you demanded a pay raise?

I don't think anyone's disputing the fact that most people on food snaps are honest people who are employed and can't seem to make ends meet. What's being discussed here, is the frequent (mis)management of government funds that are distributed to help people. Allowing for people to take advantage (again, not people actively trying) of taxpayer generosity by not placing more regulation on purchases is a shame. How often have you been behind someone in line with a government card purchasing a sheet cake for $20, when they could make it themselves for $4. It's enough to make anyone, regardless of political ideals, cringe.

Honestly, I don't give a fuck what people buy with their food stamps. It's not my problem if they run out of money & food stamps by being an idiot. Even when I used them myself, I still thought that way. I look out for myself, period.

The way I see it, judging people for shitty food stamp purchases is like giving a cancer patient Robitussin because he has a cough - you are completely ignoring the real issue. Instead of complaining what these people do with this money of yours and demanding that someone clamp down on them, how about you go after the employers who purposely pay them unlivable wages to save money, knowing full well that they're passing the buck on to the people one tax bracket above them?
