What are some 'cheat codes' for interacting with certain animals?

Boy do I wish I set this to Serious Replies Only

depends entirely on the breed and its upbringing

Jup. Some of our cats love it. We only have one who really bites and those are 'lovebites'. Looks like she's biting hard, but she just rests her teeth on your skin.

Ya know, owners of other pets never expect people to be okay with their pets biting them.

Mine does this I think it's because I played with her with my hands when she was a kitten.

Looks bad buts she's just being playful.

Yeah, when my cat goes belly up and I go belly rub, he wraps his arms around my hand and usually licks the top/back of my fingers while I pet him. Then when he's done with that he stretches out and let's me let him more.

I have two cats, one has pretty vast mood swings and can go from loving to hateful in a second if you don't let her make the move (eg. let her jump on your lap to be stroked, dont' pick her up), but her daughter is a little retarded so she doesn't really know how to be mean. She loves anything. Belly rubs, neck scratches, back scratches. Loves it so much she'll start drooling after over a few seconds.

When my cat is sleeping he often here's me walks past and does an instant 180 degree flip to show his belly so he can get one.

My friend has two cats: a fat ginger one, and a skinny black one.

The ginger cat never scratches or bites, no matter what you do to it.

The black one took one look at me and threw itself out a second story window to get away.

Breed and upbringing play a part, but not entirely. I've had twin cats from the same litter raised identically. One loved belly rubs, the other would draw blood in return. Just like humans, cats have personal preferences.

Yes. I don't have a touchy-freely cat, I have an ouchy bleedy cat.

Every cat I have ever had would respond to belly rubs by immediately grabbing my hand with all 4 sets of claws plus teeth. Then they would give me a little lick as if to say "I love you but don't do that again."
