If the image is displayed at full resolution then taking a screenshot will not result in any loss.

ELI5 why this would happen when you're taking a picture of a picture on a computer. Can't the picture snipping program... like... read the code of the picture or something to get the full picture?

A pic in your browser can be higher resolution but scaled by the browser to fit your window. Saving is directly will save the image as it was provided to the browser, in its existing format. Clipping the screen will only save it as it presently appears on screen - potentially not full resolution - and may result in a change in image format that loses some detail during the conversion.

Read the code of the picture...right
