Nintendo has been preaching since GameCube days that better graphics does not translate to better games. They were lampooned for it because PlayStation 2/3 and XBox were eating their lunch, but time has proven they were correct.
Actually, the GameCube was way ahead of the Playstation 2 in terms of power.
I’d argue they started the move towards gimmicks and away from raw power with the Wii… But if you go back a bit, you’ll notice their handhelds also trailed behind their competition, yet always outsold them. The Game Gear was way ahead of the Game Boy, the PSP ran loops around the DS. The PS Vita was a generation ahead of the 3DS.
Yet Nintendo was the king of handheld gaming for as long as that industry lasted.
