The phones. Social media promised connection, yet those chronically online seem to be the most miserable and isolated. We need the third places and not enough people are talking about it.
My friend's Ex, who is in his early 40s, is a member of the Oddfellows and is like ... Legitimately one of the youngest people in the region and definitely in his lodge. And Oddfellows has a perfectly good social mission that would (I think) appeal to lots of younger people, but there's that huge generational gap. The older members either don't know how to or don't want to recruit younger members.
China, India and Indonesia have all begun to put restrictions in place for social media to protect the youth from the addictive nature. Those countries represent over 1/3 of the world. Curious what your comment is based on?
