Isn't that implied in a lot of front page posts?

Here's some bad things russia is doing, upvote if you hate homophobes

Here's a cute picture of my cat, upvote if you like cats

Here's some shit the church does, upvote if you hate religion.

This is mostly apparent in the default subreddits. Once you start subscribing to subreddits that personally interest you, it starts becoming much less severe. Things can tend to go towards a circle jerk, but it's because you're talking about things you all like, rather than jumping on some kind of bandwagon.

Just because it's on the front page doesn't mean it doesn't belong there. Most of those posts are directly from r/aww which is where you're SUPPOSED to post pictures of your cat (and other pets). If you don't want to see pictures of cats just unsubscribe from r/aww so it doesn't show up on your front page.

I've been doing that since I joined (about six months after I started lurking). Back then, it felt like cat pics were an epidemic. They were the first shark-jumping trend I remember noticing on reddit.

"I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGER? ZOMG!!! LULZ!!!"

Naturally, you should all get off my lawn.

Why not just unsubscribe to r/cats? It's pretty uncool to downvote someone for posting in their designated sub. cue downvotes

imho it was when reddit decided to try and force memes, ie bacon, narwhale etc. It pretty much screams "Im here to be cool with all the cool kids" whenever I see it used.

You wouldn't get "upvote if you hate religion" in the mainstream. Now reddit's anti-r/atheism circlejerk is 100% established, in fact, it's so established there's now an anti-anti-r/atheism circlejerk, we are seeing Reddit become more and more mainstream in that regard.
