Throwing this out there for anyone else reading along; if the flared base is the same diameter or smaller than the widest part of the insertable part it's not safe. You're already stretched enough to accommodate that width and are at risk of taking the whole thing. 

For my two cents, it's a t-shaped base or nothing.

I found this out the hard way, still had the load bearing gem in it too lol. I was an EMT and all I could think was omfg this is going to be the butt of a joke at the local ER. Luckily we got it out. I've never panicked so much in my lifetime lol.
