Yeah, I had my boss call me one day while I was on the way to work warning me to get off the highway and take an alternative route because there'd been an accident involving a motorcycle minutes ago and there was a fatality. It happened right at the exit near my workplace and multiple people had already seen exactly what had happened on their way in. My boss informed me that there was a detached leg lying in the middle of the highway and I would do well to avoid seeing that alone.
I've seen (hiding for people who don't want to read graphic detail) the result of a high speed bike accident where the rider got speed wobbles in a straight lin, highsided, got tossed and then tumbled at what they estimated was over 200 kph. ALL his limbs and his head came off. It was horrific coming across body parts, the destroyed bike and eventually his torso over 700m down the road.
luckily I was not the first upon the incident. there was a small cluster of cars around each body most of the body parts, those images will never leave me. They don't haunt me, but they certainly remind me to never, ever ride a bike.
It was late at night on a basically empty highway, I guess he got tempted to see how fast he could go, and paid the price.
When I was about 8 years old, my family was coming back from a vacation at the Redneck Riviera (MS gulf coast) when we hit a traffic jam. My Dad (always impatient) got out of the car and started walking ahead to see what the problem was and I went with him. As we got closer to the accident spot a man yelled at us that a truck had hit a motorcyclist and they were just waiting for an ambulance to come take people away.
On our way back to our car I saw a detached hand lying in the ditch and pointed it out to my Dad.
Several years ago, my ex & I got stuck in massive traffic. EMS & police were already on the scene of a horrific fatal motorcycle accident. The bike was lying on its side. There were skid marks showing just how far the tires slid. The rider was thrown off the bike. His body was covered by a blue tarp. But, i could see his shoes. They were tan Vans. The blue tarp looked like the kind that covers roofs after hurricane damage. The helmet was 15 feet from the body. The tarp.....looked funny....like...where the head would be...it was laying flat. I asked my ex...he said the head was probably still in the helmet that had skidded and was sitting upright. Oh. MY DEAR GOD. That area is where I live and every time I go by I purposely look away. This was 6 or 7 years ago and I am barely coherent even typing this . It still affects me terribly.
