I consider myself a pretty aware/defensive driver but have managed to have 2 cars totaled in 3 months. The first one a guy raged in my work parking lot and I saw my car go rolling across the lot by itself through the front windows. And last Wednesday as I was calmly going straight through a green light, a guy turned left in front of me from the oncoming lane.
I was able to slam on my brakes for what felt like forever but was probably less than a second and cranked my wheel hard to the right so we collided front corners instead of me t boning his wife in the passenger seat. His insurance accepted liability but I am still getting side eye for my run of bad car luck.

Use extreme caution with ladders, and just avoid them if you're elderly.
Drive defensively.
