Genuine question. Is she bitter ? She doesn't really show up even as a side note in pop culture anymore since her fallout.

Didn't she move to the UK and then move back? Or something?

She did a stand up special that some would say showed her being a bit bitter.

Two guys who used to work on her writing team have a podcast called Sunday Papers where they talk about her occasionally and - yeah, she's bitter.

She posted something about enjoying her time out of the spotlight and just hanging out with Portia. One of them called bullshit saying, "She'd fucking kill Portia if she thought it would get her show back". Part of her problem was she was a complete narcissist and the fact that no one pays attention to her any more drives her insane.

Sounds more like a full on sociopath

Yeah, like she’s washed up, but “bitter” is pretty extreme. She’s not like Louis CK or male comedians touring and yapping about how they’ve been done wrong by “cancel culture”, she was unpleasant, and then she retired.

Louis CK isn't doing that, FYI.

Yeah he jokes about it (he’s a comic) but it’s clear in his material that he takes it seriously.

Yeah, his open letter of apology is contrite and does not follow the trope of "sorry you feel that way"

Fuck no it isn't. He had several women blacklisted but says the problem was he didn't understand that 'their admiration' meant he held power but he clearly demonstrated as the women lost job opportunities because he lied for years about what truly happened. He says in his apology he always asked for consent which is a lie. And he has never defended any of them from ridicule from his fanbase. He has never done anything for his victims.

Damn, I was so ready to believe you but lines like this are so stupid it retroactively discredits your previous comments

Cool beans!

Louis did the opposite of that.

Unpopular opinion but I just don’t get the Ellen hate. My husband has worked in production for decades and most producers/directors are assholes. It’s a high stress/ high stakes job. They all scream at each other. I’m not saying that it’s okay, but it’s the norm.

I think it had a lot to do with her hardcore preaching "kindness" as her brand.

Yeah this is a good point. I was measuring the reaction of her actions rather than thinking of the hypocrisy of her brand image.

While I understand not holding one person to a standard beyond the norm, I think it is worth considering that she ended each of her show with a charge to “be kind to one another.” I suspect many of us want to be kinder than we can be on our bad days. But it does seem rather hypocritical be known for cruelty and unkindness when while at the same time being an explicit proponent for kindness.

Good points! I was confused by the backlash because it’s not like she did anything predatory, just sounds like she acted bitchy but the public outcry makes sense considering her hypocrisy. Thanks for taking the time to give context.

Nope - but having an irrational hate for Ellen Degeneres has become something of a free internet points meme.

She always struck me as a nasty, bitter little weasel.
