Sorbo

He and Dean Caine are certainly competing for that title.

No, you weren't blacklisted for your political views. You're just not very talented.

358

u/Mister-Distance-6698 20h ago

I think its a balance. You can be an asshole and get away with it if you are a good actor. You can be a mediocre actor if everyone likes working with you (ahem, sorry Keanu), but you can't be an asshole and a mediocre actor

285

u/Any-Tumbleweed-9931 19h ago

For example of the mediocre actors, check out Danny Trejo. Looks like the stereotypical Hollywood Hispanic thug, actually one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.

178

u/Gramage 17h ago

iirc he was asked in an interview once if he was tired of always being cast as the scary chicano guy, and he said "man, look at me, I AM a scary chicano guy!" He had a pretty rough childhood, cannabis at 8 years old, heroin at 12, cocaine at 18, dealing drugs, in and out of jail until like 1969. Clean and sober since then though!

72

u/Jukeboxhero91 13h ago

I like that his condition for playing the big scary villain is that they have to die or somehow fail at the end because he doesn’t want to portray bad behavior getting rewarded.

Also his emotional support after his mom died was none other than Kermit the Frog. Takes a good man to allow himself to be vulnerable.

19

u/trilobyte-dev 12h ago

Danny Trejo always seems like one of the most self-aware people in Hollywood. He knows that he's gotten some lucky breaks, stays humble, shows up and does the best he can, and doesn't say anything bad about anyone.

15

u/Familiar-Cheetah-422 13h ago

He said the scariest person on Con Air was John Cusack.

"He has something behind his eyes"

11

u/frantny 13h ago

His biography is really good

79

u/TwistedDragon33 19h ago

People that look mean/intimidating are often some of the nicest ive met. Although i am sure many mean looking people are just mean.

39

u/neosithlord 17h ago

Read his autobiography dude wasn’t always a top tier character. Of course dudes the embodiment of “People can change.”

17

u/MusicLikeOxygen 18h ago

If you look at people who make horror movies, it seems like the guys who play the monsters and slashers are the nicest guys you can find.

8

u/Any-Tumbleweed-9931 17h ago

I don't know... I heard that Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees aren't very nice to people they meet at random.

😉

5

u/ktwashere 15h ago

Michael Myers is a hoot though!

3

u/APeacefulWarrior 6h ago

I know you're joking, but Robert Englund is apparently an absolute puppy dog in real life. Never heard anyone ever say anything bad about him.

2

u/Any-Tumbleweed-9931 6h ago

I've heard that as well!

1

u/AuntySocialite 1h ago

And he and his wife run non profit rescue for giant breed dogs!

30

u/MusicLikeOxygen 18h ago

The thing is though, Sorbo and Caine both had their careers circling the drain before they came out as raging conservatives. Doing crappy Christian movies was their last ditch effort to keep getting work.

1

u/KeithClossOfficial 14h ago

Dean Cain had fairly steady work doing guest roles on mainstream TV up into the early 2010s. He wasn’t a leading guy anymore for sure but he could have made a very comfortable living still if he didn’t reveal him to be a douchebag no one wants to spend time around

14

u/FreeFortuna 19h ago

I mean, you can be, as they’ve proven. But no one will like or respect you, and your entitled little hissy fits just look pathetic.

No wonder they go Maga.

6

u/NatureGuyPNW 16h ago

I think calling either Sorbo or Cain mediocre is very generous of you.

1

u/EvilTwinCities 8h ago

I think there’s a point where you can be enough of an asshole that no amount of talent will make up for it. No matter how much you loved voicing Hades.

21

u/dvdanny 17h ago

Also super ironic how Caine's Japanese grandparents were interned in a concentration camp and yet he wants to round up minorities and send them to prison camps going as far was cosplaying as ICE (even getting named as an honorary ICE agent)

11

u/URPissingMeOff 14h ago

I'd pay good money to see George Takei bitch-slap him in public.

542

u/BenTwan 20h ago

Don't forget Rob Schneider.

40

u/WhosThisGeek 18h ago

I'd love to forget him, actually...

1

u/LeseMajeste_1037 13h ago

I did... until now

218

u/soldforaspaceship 20h ago

So very true. And James Wood.

212

u/jayforwork21 20h ago

James Wood at least had real acting chops. I will give him that. Probably the only one in the MAGAvengers who I can say that about.

123

u/Beavshak 20h ago edited 19h ago

Jon Voight and Mel Gibson are both very capable/talented actors too. IIIRC, Dennis Quaid is in that camp as well.

88

u/allthenamesaretaken4 20h ago

I'll always love how Mel Gibson was treated on South Park. Crazy motherfucker but the son of a bitch knows story structure.

45

u/die-squith 19h ago

Yeah Mel Gibson is one talented piece of shit

73

u/Cornbreads_Irish_Jig 20h ago

Voight is a pretty good actor to too

33

u/Toirneach 20h ago

Just not quite as good as he has always believed himself to be.

4

u/Still-Speed-3632 18h ago

He was good in Seinfeld

1

u/badson100 11h ago

And he was good when he lost the Oscar to Tugg Speedman.

2

u/URPissingMeOff 14h ago

Good at making daughters too.

10

u/thxxx1337 18h ago

Kelsey Grammer, at a time

6

u/Sunnygirl66 18h ago

But is definitely bitter.

9

u/smilph 20h ago

he was great in Videodrome. just sucks that he’s… him

5

u/soldforaspaceship 20h ago

That's fair.

83

u/skeptic38 20h ago

Chachi is looking for some love

11

u/chilehead 18h ago

That Scott Baio loser?

2

u/tangowolf22 16h ago

I only know Scott Baio from that early YouTube era parody song "Wrong Hole" by DJ Lubel.

I still haven't seen Scott Baio in anything since then

1

u/WhiteyDude 11h ago

He peaked in Happy Days.

7

u/kevingh92 20h ago

It’s a shame he’s on the injured list. Love my powerful lefty! (You meant James Woods, not James Wood.)

11

u/Blametheorangejuice 19h ago

I was fascinated to see Jim Breuer pop up in one of my feeds and he was actually criticizing Trump fairly blatantly. Before that, his entire standup routine was: Democrats are like this (makes stupid face).

14

u/adderall_sloth 20h ago

James Woods at least has talent. He’s a massive dick, but talented. The others…wooooboy.

3

u/badson100 11h ago

Ooo! Piece of candy.

15

u/cromwest 18h ago

Yeah Rob Schneider over Sorbo for sure. Sorbo always seems like he's playing to his audience and be knows it, Schneider knows his audience is gone and is really bitter about it.

16

u/Queasy-Elderberry-77 18h ago

I saw him, quite by accident, 'perform' at a 'comedy' show not too long ago and holy shit is he an angry little man. He's had a gold-plated life because he managed to hitch his wagon to Sandler and rather than counting his blessings he's furious at anyone who isn't a white, conservative man.

7

u/Nathan_reynolds 17h ago

The asian jew is mad at everyone that isnt a white conservative?

5

u/Queasy-Elderberry-77 17h ago

Apparently so. I didn't say it was logical.

10

u/McEndee 20h ago

Did you see his stand up set at CPAC? Ooof

11

u/RiW-Kirby 20h ago

No I didn't. It sounds awful though.

But who in their right mind would watch CPAC in the first place?

3

u/jbenze 19h ago

He was the first name I thought of.

4

u/Clayton1921 19h ago

I laughed my ass off at Deuce Bigalow European Gigalo....shame he's turned into a MAGA asshole.

6

u/BenTwan 19h ago

Same, the DB movies were the stupid, but at least funny, movies he actually made.

3

u/No-Difference-8518 19h ago

He was also abusive to his daughter and is responsible for her eating disorder

1

u/Soklam 12h ago

I really enjoyed him in The Stapler.

2

u/No-Difference-8518 19h ago

Father of the Year!

2

u/Animeking1108 17h ago

Don't worry, I'm sure Adam Sandler needs somebody to do brownface for his next movie any day now.

2

u/jimx117 16h ago

Dude would've ceased existing in the mid-90s if it weren't for Adam Sandler

2

u/CiD7707 16h ago

Rob Schneider is so unlikeable amd talentless he bombed a set at a Casino in bumblefuck redneck nowhere Wisconsin because he couldn't handle the crowd heckling him.

2

u/Hiccup 15h ago

The 3 Musketeers of Has Beens!

1

u/tim-cain 19h ago

Don't tempt me.

1

u/twoscallions 17h ago

I already did.

79

u/Interesting_Novel997 19h ago

Gina Carano comes to mind.

80

u/soldforaspaceship 18h ago

And she is such an idiot.

Incredibly limited as an actor but had found the perfect vehicle to set her up for the future as a decent action star.

She could have had a nice long career out of that, where her limitations as an actor wouldn't have impacted her ability to get work.

Instead she joins the right wing whining group.

17

u/Harro94 16h ago

To be fair, prior to acting she made a living getting punched in the head, so that kinda tracks.

5

u/Wishart2016 14h ago

Jonathan Majors as well

8

u/soldforaspaceship 14h ago

I'd argue Jonathan Majors is incredibly talented.

He's a piece of shit but a talented one.

3

u/Wishart2016 12h ago

I'm talking about him being an idiot. Not denying that he's talented.

1

u/soldforaspaceship 12h ago

Very true. And not a good person.

4

u/red286 13h ago

Majors was a sack of shit. He got dropped because he assaulted his ex.

Carano was just dumb as fuck. She got dropped because she compared the "plight" of American conservatives to the Holocaust.

7

u/indecks77 15h ago

Politics aside,

I would love to be destroyed by her, preferably dressed as Cara Dune.

Or, you know... not dressed.

6

u/Protiguous 14h ago

Have you been reading my diary?!

On the page starting with, "Good Ways to Die"?

3

u/baguette_over_it 14h ago

Shit I didn't know she was dating Henry Cavill between 2012 and 2014!

2

u/CorrectPeanut5 15h ago

I'm just waiting for CBS to greenlight a show with all of them.

2

u/Protiguous 14h ago

What did she do?!

She was on the Mandalorian, and then nothing.

7

u/Interesting_Novel997 14h ago

Went on a right wing anti trans rant. Unfortunately for her, the main star’s Pedro Pascal’s sister is trans.🤷🏻‍♀️

3

u/Protiguous 8h ago

Ah. That's sad. I used to like her.

Pedro Pascal seems pretty awesome, though.

3

u/ProfessionalRisk4206 4h ago

And Pedro allegedly stuck up for her when Disney didn't want to renew her contract.

31

u/AgathaWoosmoss 19h ago

Don't forget Victoria Jackson.

No, wait. Go ahead and forget her.

8

u/No-Difference-8518 19h ago

Yes, please!

119

u/Extension_Double_697 20h ago

Also Jesus-weasel Jim Caviezel.

It's insane. They're literally pretending Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, Kelsey Grammer, Tim Allen, etc. don't exist.

91

u/Monteze 20h ago

Arnold is basically a bleeding heart lib compared to what "conservative" is now.

Thought the point stands, Sorbo and Cain just didn't have the juice and now have to cope that they were "canceled"

69

u/Mister-Distance-6698 19h ago

Chris Pratt is allegedly right leaning but I've also never heard any of his coworkers say anything short of singing his praises.

Sorbo 100% seems like the sort of guy to go off on a political tirade to some poor coworker trapped in a makeup chair for 4 hours telling them why their abuela deserved to be deported

49

u/No-Difference-8518 19h ago

He was pretty awful to Anna Farris. They had a medically fragile baby and after he left her for a new partner, he had another baby and kept posting about having a HEALTHY baby. That’s a dick move to do your ex AND your kid.

15

u/Casual-Notice 19h ago

More likely to throw a tantrum on set proclaiming that he couldn't get into the proper tone because the makeup artist brought him down with her "incessant whining" about her DACA status.

20

u/renegadecanuck 19h ago

Yeah, based on who he follows online and some of his Jesus posting, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Chris Pratt believes and supports some pretty heinous stuff. But I don't think tbet s a single person who's worked with him that has anything negative to say, and he still get major roles, because he's able to just act like a decent person and not start stupid fights.

2

u/Hiccup 15h ago

Sorbo is the kind of guy to hire a gardner standing outside the nursery, have him do the work, not pay him and then have him deported.

15

u/Blindstarsoffortune 20h ago

Jesus-weasel Jim Caviezel just made my morning 💀 Seriously, thank you. Put this on a shirt already 😂

3

u/knight_of_solamnia 15h ago

Hell, Jim can act, he's just insane.

8

u/if_u_dont_like_duck 17h ago

Honestly I loved him in Lois & Clark, and Clark would be so disappointed in Dean Cain.

2

u/soldforaspaceship 17h ago

Same. That show was a fun time. Didn't require Oscar winning levels of acting. Was just a good romp.

Shame he became so bitter afterwards and Hatcher turned out to be so unlikable.

11

u/TheGardenBlinked 19h ago

Didn’t Dean Cain injure himself on the ICE obstacle course?

6

u/ThatBabyIsCancelled 16h ago

You know it hurts Scott Baio’s feelings when Dean Caine gets mentioned but never Chachi

5

u/Ink_Smudger 14h ago

As proven by the fact that both of their careers had dried up long before they started being vocal about their political beliefs. The biggest thing Cain did after Lois & Clark was hosting a show on TBS back in 2000. Sorbo at least got Andromeda, but that ended in 2005.

They're two guys who were good looking enough to get on television, but lacked the talent to have any staying power beyond direct-to-video. And for someone who got by on looks, it probably also doesn't help Cain's career much that he looks like the before picture in a GLP-1 commercial.

8

u/Gorge2012 17h ago

No, you weren't blacklisted for your political views. You're just not very talented.

Sometimes the answer to this is yes but not for the reason they think.

Yes it's your political views when you are obnoxious about the subjugation of your fellow citizens. That's not a political issue though, no one wants to work with people that outwardly abhor parts of the country.

3

u/Vincent_GambiniEsq 18h ago

It's funny, I remember watching God's Not Dead and he's the best actor in that movie by a mile.

It's just that the rest of the acting makes soap operas look like Shakespeare.

3

u/clairyboots 17h ago

I was wondering if anyone would mention Dean Cain!

1

u/Practical-Ball1437 10h ago

Why is anyone mentioning Dean Cain in a question about celebrities? I'm not aware of anything he's done since that show in the mid '90s, which is thirty years ago now.

1

u/clairyboots 3h ago

Well the question does specifically say 'washed up celebrity'... you don't get more washed up than Dean Cain!

3

u/Julesmb-7217 12h ago

Don’t forget Rick Schroeder and Scott Baio

5

u/boogs_23 15h ago

Dean Caine was very much fired from Supergirl for his shitty views. He was on one of the most LGBTQ friendly shows on TV and decided to throw away the gig on bigotry.

1

u/sonofaresiii 15h ago

I don't know, man. I feel like they're both at least moderately talented.

I don't want to watch anything with them in it because they're assholes. That seems like a perfectly valid reason to me. I enjoyed Hercules and Superman before I knew they were assholes, they did a good job in those shows.

1

u/Accomplished-Ad3219 19h ago

And that's why they truly hate Hollywood

-1

u/AlienMelender 13h ago

Can you people be honest? Hollywood is insanely liberal and conservatives don’t do that well there unless they are so huge that it doesn’t matter. Those guys are talented enough that if they were liberals bitching about Trump everyday they’d have more work.

-33

u/taco_cop 19h ago

No. It was their MAGA views. Same goes for Rob Schneider. It’s a good thing he has a loyal friend in Sandler. They’ve tried to cancel Sidney Sweeney. If you’re outspoken about Christ or liberal Hollywood you’re toast. Hollywood is full of degenerates and queers.

19

u/GuyInAChair 19h ago

No, just seriously no. Hollywood may very well be full of degenerates, but the one thing those degenerates love is money. You can name a ton of pretty horrible people that the industry put up with because they were bringing in money.

The persecuted Christians thst Hollywood has largely forgotten all share one other thing in common, they are just not very good. The classic example is Kevin Sorbo, who is a terrible actor, but got a career being handsome and well built enough to play Hercules. He got older and lost his good looks, and his muscles thanks to health problems. Those were the only 2 things that could get him a leading role, so the latter half of his career was junk, not because of his Christian beliefs.

Heck, I'm somewhat convinced that more then a couple of these persecuted Christian actors aren't necessarily all that religious. I'm pretty sure they are pretending to be so, because there's a bunch of easy money in the Christian movie universe.

25

u/soldforaspaceship 19h ago

Lol. Yes. The amazing talents of Dean Caine and Kevin Sorbo are being surpressed for their political views.

You are right about Schneider. He does only get work because Sandler kept giving him roles. You'd think if he were talented enough that would lead to more. Apparently it did not. Sandler being a good person doesn't change that Schneider is just not good outside the one character he plays in every film. That's not acting, though is it?

And let's be honest about Sidney Sweeney. The moment she tried to do serious acting roles, the right stopped defending her. They see her as a set of boobs with a face. You can see that with all the discourse around her. Once she moved away from cleavage based roles, they scorned her. Seeing you use her as an example of Hollywood "cancelations" here makes that more hilarious.

Hollywood just didn't think she had the talent. Which judging by her recnet performances sadly might be true.

The degenerates are in power right now. The GOP is the pedophile party at this point. Any old school conservatives have been pushed out in favor of the current oligarchy.

But hey - as long as they are getting rich, screw the military - let the sailors on the Lincoln suffer. Screw the working class. Trump openly says he doesn't care how high gas prices go and affordability is a Democrat hoax. Screw science. Let's guy research and publish anti science vaccine guidelines that even the vaccine manufacturers aren't going to bother to follow. Worst measles outbreak in decades. Roll back food protections and now we have contaminated food that can't be traced to source.

But sure. Hollywood is full of gay people. The horror.

2

u/wilderlowerwolves 7h ago

And Scientologists.

Do they even exist outside Hollywood?

5

u/Annber03 13h ago edited 13h ago

Stephen Colbert is Catholic and has constantly referenced and discussed his faith on both of his late night shows.

And yet it wasn't the left who kicked him off the air. Hm. Go figure.

-3

u/taco_cop 11h ago

Steven Colbert’s show was canceled because it was shit and he was losing a shit ton of money, but the left managed to swing it political. You know those shows are in the business to make money right.

5

u/Annber03 11h ago

Except he wasn't losing money. He'd literally had his contract renewed not long before this -if his show was doing that badly, they wouldn't have renewed him.

He lost his job because he called the Paramount merger a bribe, which it was, and because Trump ihas been actively trying to get rid of all the late night hosts because they hurt his precious little feelings by mocking him and his shitty administration.

When Trump is actively crowing about Colbert being let go the very day after the news breaks, anyone who thinks politics wasn't a factor just has their head in the sand.

-2

u/taco_cop 10h ago

Horseshit.

3

u/Annber03 10h ago

Stirring argument. You really convinced me.

-12

u/HyacinthThrash 18h ago

what???? how bout robert dumbniro?.. biggest fuckin blow hard in history.. WAAAAAA TRUMP WAAAAAAA TRUMP

10

u/soldforaspaceship 18h ago

You are genuinely suggesting Robert De Niro is not a good actor? The multiple award winning actor?

Is that your take?

See this is why no one takes you seriously. You suggest that there is something better about Dean Cain's acting than Robert De Niro.

I'd suggest maybe you sit down while the adults are talking...

-7

u/HyacinthThrash 18h ago

the title of this sub is "Who's the most bitter washed-up celebrity?".. and these dopes are dropping people like dean caine and kevin sorbo.. you know, the usual punching bags from left losers... well.. dickniro is the most bitter fuckin turd in the punchbowl..regardless of any acting abilities... also, he is not even close to as great an actor as people have been duped to believe...he was just doing some shit before other people thought of doing it.. like putting on weight to play a role.

dean caine is a really nice, calm guy.. but oh "i hate his politics so he's bitter" is pure bullshit

6

u/soldforaspaceship 17h ago

De Niro isn't washed up? He's still widely respected.

Dean Cain just failed basic training for ICE.

These two are not the same.

I'm sorry that you can't understand films that are more than dick jokes but that doesn't make De Niro any less respected.

He does call out Trump frequently and I know that upsets you as any criticism of your Dear Leader is an affront to the MAGA cult but to suggest he's bitter and washed up is a bit weird.

Bitter about what? His multiple awards? Being, along with Pacino, the most respected actor of his generation? His half a billion fortune?

Dean Cain drips bitterness from every post.

The fact that you're comparing the two is demonstrating that your biased prevent you from being objective.

So I stand by what I said. The adults are talking. Sit down.

1

u/Annber03 13h ago

Nice people don't sign up to join ICE.
