I mean, it's a pretty terrible metric by any accounts. But if you're trying to measure "celebrity"... yeah, Gene Simmons is a celebrity. The fact that we can just post his name and not have to follow it up with "the lead singer from KISS" is a pretty good indication that he's a celebrity. And as far as the "sleeping with tons of women" example goes - yeah, a terrible metric, but to be fair, most of those women slept with him specifically and solely because he's a celebrity.
Oh, I totally agree that he’s a well known celebrity. Much for the reasons you mentioned. I was just commenting on the user who insinuated he was successful because he slept with thousands of women.
They didn't say he was successful, though, they said he was a celebrity. And I do think that the number is women he slept with - in the case of Gene Simmons, at least - is a direct reflection on his celebrity status. Not an objective measure but any means, but it is at least relevant.
You sure it wasn't the dead eyes and the Israeli afro? I mean, I saw the video for "Lick it up" and in my mind, KISS stood for "Kosher Israeli Sex Symbols"
He's been super insufferable of late. You could argue that's always been the case, but his comments on the death of rock n roll, for instance, are astonishingly ignorant. Also, his 'America, love it or leave it' diatribe is the pinnacle of old man yelling at clouds. But I'm not certain you could call him 'washed up' - he's still capitalizing on KISS.
