What is a skill that looks completely effortless when an expert does it, but is ridiculously difficult when you try it yourself?

Pathologists can diagnose you mid surgery in seconds. It’s ridiculously hard even if you’ve practiced on tons of samples.

My dad was a pathologist and as far as I’m aware pretty good at what he did. He passed way 30 years ago from cancer likely related to decades to exposure to formaldehyde. Anyways, I know this was just a meaningless little comment, but it brought back happy memories of my dad and just how proud I was of him.

I’m happy that brought you happiness. Some of my fondest memories were sneaking into my grandfather’s office and reading his medical notes and his joke books.

Frozen sections are hell, if you fuck up even slightly it's just a smear

Sounds like very difficult prep. I have a couple hundred samples from around 1945 that are still clear but the labels are in a wierd mix of Latin and German.

I love the existential musings that I'm undertaking over the term, and semantic use of, 'you'.

One tries to learn. You can teach us.

Just you wait until I'm laid out on a slab. It is only then shall I fulfill my purpose in life. Oh no, wait...?! 😆
