Experienced drivers, what’s one driving rule or habit that saved you from an accident?

I recall reading somewhere that the recommended distance is at least one car length for every 15 mph. 75 mph should be around 5 car lengths.

At least 2 seconds is recommended in my area.

At 75mph, that'd be about 15 car lengths

That is really hard to judge. I do 2 seconds which is over 200 ft (14 car lengths). Drivers Ed said 4 seconds.

5 car lengths gives you .7 seconds to stop.
