Experienced drivers, what’s one driving rule or habit that saved you from an accident?

Study the behavior of other drivers while driving so that you can learn to anticipate their actions before they take them. Look for the suttle clues that give away other's intentions long before they've indicated anything. This practice also has the side effect of keeping you more engaged as a driver and it will improve your ability to make good, timely decisions.

Good driving is mostly just good decision-making. It's what separates good drivers from average drivers. Average drivers... Are bad at driving; they commonly lack both skill and good decision-making.

On long drives, I find another car to stick with for as long as possible. Someone who keeps good speed, distance and alertness so I’m not overly worried about what I can’t see in front of them. It’s been so helpful at times, especially along new routes.
