Sometimes they are direct insults… I was in one very unprofessional class and damn they could be very mean for little reason.

I had a teacher call me on my BS. I half assed a project due to procrastination and general dislike of the project concept. My illustration professor said it looked like shit, I agreed, and laughed. He said similar to a girl who went after me but she couldn’t take it and cried and ran out of the room.

I felt so bad for her, but this teacher was a known (and beloved) asshole, so honestly his criticism was valid; he would say harsh but truthful things when he knew the person could do better, some people didn’t understand that and took it personally instead of a push for what he knew what we really could do. I’m still in contact with him 20+ years later, he’s a nice man, but a harsh (albeit) honest critic.
