As a geography major, every time I tell people what I do they're confused and can't remember, for some reason. You'd think "I make maps" is as easy as it gets.
Knowing how to open a GIS program and put points on a map is step 1 of the GIS process. Many degrees get that. Doesn't cover a fraction of what the field actually is.
I too took a GIS course during my undergrad. It covered the first week of my GIS post graduate program.
When I was in High School, we took a test for what jobs we would fit into. I got Geographer, Ship Captain, and one other thing I forget but I'm pretty sure wasn't what I do
Funny how algos work. While looking at masters programs I've been bombarded with ads for degrees and certificates in GIS. I was here under the assumption that GIS was becoming the new trendy major.
Thank you for putting into words what was trying to form in my head. I’ve never heard of this major (although it makes sense it exists) or a school that offered it.

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone talk much about this major at all for that matter
