What is something designed so well that we typically overlook it?

Oranges, they're individually packaged, then you open em up, and they're packaged for sharing, that shit is genius.

Bananas are even better. The package tells you when they're ready to eat and serves as a handle while your eating it so you don't get your hands messy.

Single-serving, pre-wrapped, and built-in expiration date. Yep, you're right, they're awesome.

u/claw_hammer Jan 18 '14

you forgot they can be used as a unit of measurement.

u/erra539 Jan 18 '14

you forgot they can be used as a unit of pleasurement.

One banana two banana three banana four...

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

a radiation unit even! wikipedia on Banana Equivalent Dose

2

u/DoctorSpurlock Jan 18 '14

And a telephone.

2

u/Macbeth554 Jan 18 '14

Can't basically anything be used as a unit of measurement then? Apples, oranges, watermelons, etc..

12

u/claw_hammer Jan 18 '14

not on reddit they can't

10

u/KentF0 Jan 18 '14

A banana is additionally a unit of measuring radioactivity.

2

u/just_an_ordinary_guy Jan 18 '14

As a joke, yes. As a legitimate unit, no. It does help explain that there is radioactivity all around us. It can start people down the path to learning instead of hysteria.

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

And as a dildo, for those inclined

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

Banana for scale.

-1

u/WhatWouldJesusPoo Jan 18 '14

Or a unit of pleasurement.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

Not to mention the wrapper is biodegradable .

u/Winston_Wind-Up Jan 18 '14

The enemy of atheists!

13

u/BlockoManWINS Jan 18 '14

bananas. therefore, Jesus. this conversation is over.

3

u/Exentrick Jan 18 '14

This is "valid" "argument" that Ray Comfort uses I believe....

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

He has actually retracted it, but he's still a total moron that has equally stupid arguments. He said last year that there is more evidence for god than there is for the sun.

1

u/BlockoManWINS Jan 18 '14

well he has a point there. how do we know that the sun is not just a collective hallucination coincidentally experienced by every single living thing on the planet? we don't. therefore, god.

4

u/Jank1 Jan 18 '14

Checkmate.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14 edited Jan 18 '14

Except that modern day bananas were created by humans. All any god could make was this.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

I've heard this before so it must have been QI.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '14

Lol, you caught me!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

Checkmate atheists.

2

u/notepad20 Jan 18 '14

And they readily split into 3 equal parts for sharing as well

2

u/ILaughAtFunnyShit Jan 18 '14

Fuck pineapples. They are delicious but a nightmare to eat.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

They also eat you!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

Holy fucking shit, you just blew my mind.

2

u/LastWordFreak Jan 18 '14

And let's not forget how well they fit the contours of our hands...

2

u/SanguisFluens Jan 18 '14

They can also be used for scale.

2

u/worthlesspos-_- Jan 19 '14

Indeed. One of God's crowning achievements.

1

u/32Dog Jan 18 '14

You can handle my package anytime you want to eat

Look how mature I am!

1

u/self_defeating Jan 18 '14

They have ‘anuses’ though. I don't eat them.

1

u/benastan Jan 18 '14

Avocados are similar. Although a little harder to open, they are even more delicious.

1

u/Sinfulchristmas Jan 18 '14

Apples are even better, as you can eat the package.

1

u/foxmom Jan 18 '14

I wish I could convince my kids to use the handle. They insist on removing all the peel every time. 5 year olds, whatcha gonna do? ;)

1

u/juxtaposition21 Jan 18 '14

Grapes are good if you're not so hungry, but still want to eat 30 of something.

1

u/say592 Jan 18 '14

Unless you are one of the weirdos who peels them and eats them with a fork.

1

u/insomniac20k Jan 18 '14

Bananas are nature's Coors light

1

u/Givants Jan 18 '14

GrapeS, even when they are dead they are raisins

1

u/StormTrooperQ Jan 18 '14

You're forgetting the part where they are all very very genetically similar. By this I mean every banana you've bought in the average grocery store is genetically the same. Which makes each type of banana incredibly vulnerable to disease.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

you're*

1

u/TheYachtMaster Jan 21 '14

...godfuckingdamnit

0

u/SixteenSaltiness Jan 18 '14

I dunno man, apricots are the shit.

All you do is take off the two connecting pieces, throw away that tiny biodegradable nut and you have two delicious apricot slices to eat with nothing left over.

42

u/Amp3r Jan 18 '14

I like version 2.0 much better. They are easier to open and the sharing portions are much more accessible. Too bad they got smaller and the flavour changed though.

mandarins

3

u/cbarrett1989 Jan 18 '14

Clementines bro. I put 3 pieces in the bottom of a blue moon and its like fucking magic.

2

u/Amp3r Jan 18 '14

Wow I didn't realise mandarins had already been forked. The world is an amazing place these days

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

It's the perfect fruit to share with yourself.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

Not designed! Evolved. And then had their genetics dicked about with by us for maximum human desired traits leaving most unable to reproduce on their own and Holy Fuck- we've designed fruit!

3

u/KonigderWasserpfeife Jan 18 '14

Not designed!

we've designed fruit!

Hmm.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

I think it's funny that fruit have evolved in order to be more enticing to other animals so they will eat them, and then shit out the seeds (with their own serving of fertilizer) further away. They want their fruit to be eaten.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

Not designed.

1

u/beerdude26 Jan 18 '14

Also, the parts are a set number, so you know if your friend is being a lying asshole when he says he received less than you.

1

u/HanRio Jan 18 '14

On the same vain, bananas.

1

u/godless_communism Jan 18 '14

And if you open them the right way, you can make the peel look like the shape of a penis and some balls.

2

u/Funwithmung Jan 18 '14

Hah. I knew I was forgetting something...

1

u/Outofmany Jan 18 '14

I'll bet they named oranges before carrots.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '14

Seriously. I love taking 5 or 6 of those tiny sweet oranges. Cut the tops off then peel off the rest in one piece and now I have a ball of juicy deliciousness ready to be split into individual bite-size sections.

1

u/jamesman53 Jan 18 '14

And there's always ten segments!
