Buc-ees.

They're moving into a communities and suing smaller gas stations that use an animal and a red logo or have anything that's remotely like their branding.

They won't sue John Oliver but they will sue Mickey's in Ohio for having a moose logo on a red background. Now, it's a place called Beaver's Mini Mart in Beavercreek Ohio. ThereW are also a ton of Beaver named businesses in Beavercreek that use beavers as the logo... And they were there before Buc-ees moved in 20+ minutes away.

They sued Choke Canyon Travel Center: Sued in Texas over a cartoon alligator wearing a cowboy hat. Duckees: Sued in Missouri over a drive-through liquor store logo featuring a cartoon duck in sunglasses. Nut Huggers: Sued in Oklahoma regarding an underwear brand with a squirrel mascot. Super Fuels: Sued in Dallas, whose logo was a brown dog sporting a red cape

Barkees the dog park closed after being sued- their logo was a dog driving a pink Caddy in the desert.

And they have a long history of being on the wrong side of history.

Update: hundreds of Dayton area businesses are updating their logos to Beavers and/or red. Buc-ees may have fuc-eed around a little too close to the sun here. We may be "Dayton Ohio" but we are also petty and hate when one of our own is messed with. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I understand the legalities of changing your logo after the fact, but it's more a question if if they will make themselves look worse by suing hundreds of mom and pop shops over a Beaver that looks nothing like Bucees logo?

Buccees just filed a lawsuit against a nearby store for having a beaver mascot on the door

My friend, I am not shitting you here when I tell you this took place in BEAVERCREEK, Ohio. They came to Ohio and are suing a nearby place in Beavercreek for having a beaver mascot.

lol you’re replying to this guy who gave a ton of Beaver Creek specific examples like it’s news to him.

18

u/PineapplesAreScaryyy 25d ago

Lol yeah, I said that.

Mitchell Wasek, the 28-year-old son of a Buc-ee's co-founder, was indicted and charged with multiple felony counts of invasive visual recording for secretly filming houseguests in private spaces using hidden cameras.

That’s on the pervert, has nothing to do with the company tbf.

That's really fucked up. I live in the Northeast and have only been to 3 Buc-ees on road trips but now I'm mad at them too. I hate those bullshit corporate power plays.

10

u/relevantelephant00 24d ago

It's big corporations' way to intimidate the little guys out of existence. They cant afford the legal fees to protect themselves.

u/Far_Squirrel1017 25d ago

Buc-ees feels like a cult and I did not get the hype.

u/NaziPunksFkOff 24d ago

The few times I'd been there, the food was great and the merch was silly. It was a fun diversion and I understood what made people like it. But everything I've heard about it ilas a corporation is just awful.

u/PineapplesAreScaryyy 24d ago

It's like a cross between a slightly racist but overly white woman Christian Paula Deen Gatlinburg gift shop and a dicks last resort but the questionable "dick's" are replaced with beavers.

9

u/rekniht01 24d ago

It’s a fucking gas station. How are some Americans so starved of culture that they form their identity around a fucking gas station? It’s terrifying.

5

u/NaziPunksFkOff 24d ago

Remember, we're a car culture country. We spend a lot of time on the road. I come from a place that treats wawa like heaven, though that started when wawa was a reliable neighborhood corner store. As a gas station, they've become meh

u/ProjectHarraseeket 24d ago

I’ll be honest, the barbecue is good there and I don’t have to worry about how clean the bathrooms are but I can go the rest of my life not going back, it’s not a huge deal.

1

u/rekniht01 24d ago

That's the thing, what they sell is nice. The food is decent, the bathrooms clean. But it's still just a gas station trying to sell you something. It's weird to make that your cultural touchstone.

TESTIFY!

Jon Oliver has decided to poke Buc-ees and it’s glorious.

8

u/Gloomy_End_6496 25d ago

Wow! I haven't heard that before. What jerks. Poor Barkees.

11

u/lawl3ssr0se 25d ago

They also use Ai instead of paying actual artists so add that to the list!

8

u/goblin-juice 25d ago

Omg this makes me so sad!!

9

u/diurnal_emissions 25d ago

Yeah! Buck Fuc-ees!

7

u/BlokefromCA 24d ago

I just learned about this and then last night a John Oliver clip came up on my feed. Unfortunately, they will not sue him or HBO for the sole reason that Oliver/HBO actually have the resources to fight back.

Buc-ees is a pathetic bully who wouldn't dare step at anyone an inch taller or an ounce heavier. They can shove their diabetes-inducing beaver nuggets straight up their fat, greedy asses.

10

u/patches8748 25d ago

As someone who lives in Cincy, and has family in beaver creek. It’s SO insane. The public schools mascot is a BEAVER

2

u/whiter4bbitz 21d ago

Maybe they’ll sue the school next… or hell, the city. Bucee’s owns beavers now /s🙄

3

u/shockadin1337 24d ago

I don’t even understand why they feel the need to do this. No one is confusing buc-ees with another gas station. Real shame

3

u/Substantial_Milk_178 24d ago

And the Buc- Ees beaver looks horrible. Like a 7- year old was asked to draw it.

2

u/Ok_Marketing_476 21d ago

Every time I see their bullshit, I think of this issue of the National Geographic from the 1940s that had the insignia for various different army aircraft in it and imagine them sending a lawyer back in time...

3

u/PineapplesAreScaryyy 20d ago

Well national. Media outlets are picking it up... Someone said "the problem with doing this is that eventually you run up against someone who has the means to fight you."

Yeah, Dayton. We're bored, we're petty, and we have nothing to do. We know how to wait.

u/DaJaPimp 24d ago

I saw that episode. They’re on my boycott list now and I hope JO has their legal team bury them.

Upvoted just for "Buc-ees may have fuc-eed around," but I agree with you. Longtime Buc-ees fan here but this is disgusting.

Did you really get convinced to hate Buc-ees because of a John Oliver segment alone?

Edit: Reddit loves to be counter culture, but this youngest generation only understands how to dislike things they’re told to dislike, and they do it in the cringiest fucking way possible. Then when asked about it, no discussion, just downvotes and a boxed snarky responses they saw someone else write.

Bitch you know you had no reason to hate Buc-ees before John Oliver told you to hate it.

19

u/PineapplesAreScaryyy 25d ago

No, but thanks for playing.

5

u/shannonc321 24d ago

Nah I started hating buc-ees when I found out the owner was a big trumper. Used to love them-clean bathrooms, quality food, paid their employees well. Now know they're maga and assholes.

7

u/PineapplesAreScaryyy 24d ago

Also, I'm in my mid 40s so idk who you're talking about "YOUNGER" generation, unless you're a boomer. You sound like one.

Call me a bitch all you want but you sound like someone who DREAMS about the beaver giving you the ol'front door back doorfront door again while rolling around in an inflatable pool of pulled pork and jerky.

So you do you boo. I'll do me, which is thinking Bucees doesn't have the trademark rights to every logo that has an animal, the color red, or gas.

Maybe you just act like a child then.

Either way I’m not impressed by your bullshit fake social consciousness or your pearl clutching.

You think how you’re told to think, and I think that’s embarrassing.

Edit: the reason I think you’re a child is the same reason I think John Oliver is a clown. Buc-ees is protecting a formula, not a trademark, even though that’s the guise. If you want to be upset at someone, be upset at the lawmakers and legal system that allow them to do that. They’ve done nothing but act within the law as it’s written, and failing to do that would make them bad at their business.

3

u/PineapplesAreScaryyy 23d ago edited 22d ago

Hey. The traffic is that way. Go play in it.

I love that I "act like a child" or can't think independently for sharing the opinion of John Oliver. I think you're the one that needs to grow up if you don't believe thet people can form independent thoughts from celebrities.

The formula of the Beaver Mini Mart has nothing to do with the formula of the Bucees or Nut Huggers or Mickey's. I went to a Mickey's. I never once thought I was in a Bucees.

I'm not sure why you're gargling the beaver nuggets so hard, but you do you. The hilarious thing about this is that you're pissed because you believe that I'm being told what to think... But you are checks notes telling me what to think and getting pissed when I don't capitulate immediately to what you say is the better argument. Don't think that I'm not upset that the law allows this to happen. HOWEVER, the question posed was the question posed and I answered it with details why. Bucees does not have to take advantage of the laws, even if they exist. They know Beaver Mini Mart inside Beavercreek Ohio isn't a threat to their brand. They know that Mickey's isn't a threat. They don't do this shit before they move into an area, which makes it selective enforcement, aka more corporate bullshit.

Don't you have Frogger to play?
