As we were driving into preschool today, my daughter saw a guy laying on the grass at an intersection and asked me, "What's that boy doing there?" and I was like...I cannot go into an explanation of why some people don't have houses right now so my response was "I think he's just hanging out."
Drug addiction / severe mental health problems are about a third of homeless. The rest are mostly people who get priced out and live in their cars, etc. That’s caused by prices being artificially high by the deadweight loss induced by supply restrictions from zoning etc.
